Well I'm just another person sharing what I been through or found out

Glad to hear the positive resoponse Hope she keep moving forward

Beleive it or not only one banding for me

My guess is if they don't do this they are another possiable complication or even serious unexpected bleeding.

I looked at the proceedure on you tube don't have the links but try searching something like this

(banding varices in esophagus) Or see if this works

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=banding+varices+in+esophagus&oq=banding+varices+in+e&gs_l=youtube.1.0.33i21l2.2243.26388.0.29134.26.20.0.6.6.0.147.2312.4j16.20.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.Q09SoJaKQxw

Good luck to MUM and you

Hi Bill, your comments are reassuring, once we heard she had varices we have been worried thinking she's now sitting on a time bomb that is just waiting to go off. I'm presuming the medical folks are much more confident they can manage varices successfully these days? How many bands did you require? Glad to hear you're doing well now! To finish on a positive note we've just heard that well as my mum's viral load continuing to go down, her Hb is now climbing back up on its own and she's feeling better. Next blood test is Thursday, we're hoping for that result, you all know the one. Regards, Andy.

Hi Andy

I had a varice banded month ago wasent too bad soft foods for a week or 2 It  is good that the doctor is taking that precaution. One less thing to worry about

Hope she feels better

The banding should stop any more bleeding, Andy, and her follow up endoscopies will pick up any further problems.  It sounds like your mum is getting good medical attention, and that must be reassuring.  And the trial drugs will help her liver.  We have a `Clinical Trials` section you might like to have a look through, you`ll see that our members on Abbott trials are doing very well.

Hi Andy,

As Turquoise2 is for cirrhotics, Jill makes a good point about bleeding varices. Do you know if she has had a recent gastroscopy?

Hi Andy,

Welcome to the Forum. We have members doing Turquoise2 who have their details in the Clinical Trials section. I'm sure they will respond to your post. They seem to be doing well and hope your Mum has an easy treatment.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions. Cheers.

Hi All,

I'm Andy, my mum started the TURQUOISE 2 trail may be five weeks ago now. Its been a rough period which has rollercoasted somewhat. Looking for any help and guidance folks are willing to give/share?

Background info: Mum first diagnosed with Hep C over fifteen years. Geno type 1a (i think). First treated unsuccessfully 13 years ago. Since then been ok, but with slightly abnormal liver function. Started TURQUOISE 2 trail about 5 weeks ago - viral load now >25, which is the good news, but we've had one or two complications on the way, required second endoscopy intervention this week.

I'lll be glad just to too base with folks that know a little of what we're going through. Thank you in anticipation.

Andy

Yes that must be a worry, sounds like she has `varices` which have been bleeding.   I don`t think we can say whether it will happen again, I think that`s something she will have to ask her medical team about.  Has she had any procedure done to prevent any more bleeding?

Thanks for your prompt responses. The trial info you sent is definitely the correct trial, she was recruited via the Nottingham UK centre. Our main concern is she had GI bleed two weeks ago and although recovering now. This has knocked her and we're now worried about the possibility of reoccurence?

Hi Andy, welcome from me too!   smile  I`m glad you found us, you`ll find this is a very friendly and supportive group.  Well done for representing your mum here, you must be a great support to her.  Your mum`s viral load has come right down then, that`s great.  Sorry to hear she`s had some complications though.  I  hope the rest of her treatment goes well for her.

As Malcolm said, we have other members currently participating in Turquoise 2 and I`m sure they will be more than happy to speak to you and compare notes.

This looks like the trial your mum is on...

Keep in touch, and let us know how she gets on!  ~ Jill
