Hi Garfield,

Welcome. You made a good decision to wait, as the Abbott Trial members seem to be doing very well. We now have quite a number of members doing the various Abbott trials, and they post in the Clinical Trials secion of the Forum. You will get useful information from their posts, so, as Jill suggested, do your next post in that section. We will be keen to follow your progress. Good luck.

Hi,

   I introduce myself but now, because it's a bit exhausting for me to write in english. So, sorry for my "Kauderwelsch", this means in german a mixture of words and grammatics of different languages.

I got my diagnose in January 2012. Every 3-4 years I went to a doctor to have a blood test and one of the liver function reading was to high. He induced an extensive blood test. The result was I had Hepatitis B and I have Hepatitis C GT1a 12 Millions. It was a shock, I have not really an idea from where I got both. Eventually from immunglobuline, which I got as a protection against Hepatitis for my Nepal/Tibet-Tour in 1988 - which irony.

I visited a doctor at the university hospital and he recommended me to wait for new drugs and not to treat with telaprevir, because of the SX. The funtion of my liver is quite good, fibrosis state F0-F1. I visited two other specialists, the advice was the same - waiting or a clinical trial. So the first offer I got was the Annapurna trial from Roche phase 2. But one week before starting I decided not to do - as far as I know a good decision.The second offer was the Abbott sapphire trial and the beginning for me was mid april. I decided for me not to keep blind, so I induced the measure of the viral load after 4 days. The viral load decreased from 10.2 Millions to 1148 - I am so happy not to be on the placebo path. Until now I have only very mild SX. I hope I will report sapphire was a good decision.

Hi Garfield, welcome!  Thanks for introducing yourself.  Your English is very good indeed, but I can understand it must be tiring... I would find it exhausting if I tried to write in German! 

I think you did the right thing by waiting for a trial, considering your liver is in good health.  That`s an amazing drop in viral load, great!  Things are looking very promising for you, and I look forward to hearing about your next vl result.

By the way, do feel free to start your own thread in the `Clinical Trials` section for further updates.
