mallani,

thanks for all your advice. 1st thing tomorrow i have a dental appt. to chart the last course of my implants in a jiffy. actually all i need are 2 abuttments and the crowns. my main concern is that my hepc dr. already called in for the meds. well i'll just start them either 6/15,or 7/1 to not lose my teeth!

since i have the dry mouth disease i can highly recommend the following 3 products: act-total care for dry mouth,1.1% sodium fluoride tooth paste, and 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse. the last 2 are prescriptions and buy a ph saliva kit tester! god forbid the dentists could inform us of our conditions. i googled everything and told him what i needed!

yes i've had a liver biopsy and luckily only have a small amt of fatty infiltration. thus i'm hoping my liver enzymes will return to normal levels. i'm sorry to hear that yours haven't after all that painful treatment. we just have to keep the faith and never give up.

Hi Sandy, welcome from me too!  smile

I must say I agree with Malcolm about your dental situation.  In your position I would definitely wait until the implants have completely healed before starting treatment.  For the sake of waiting a few more weeks I wouldn`t think it was worth the possibility of slowing down the healing process, and also the risk of infection, once treatment has begun and your blood levels start to fall.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do, we`ll be here for you!

Hi and welcome.

I'm the expert in losing teeth from treatment. I've had 3 courses of treatment with Interferon and have lost 3 molars. I finished 48 weeks of triple Rx with Victrelis 12 weeks ago. The day after I finished Rx, I broke off another molar at the gum line. As my platelets and white cells were so low, my dentist wouldn't extract the roots. My blood counts are now up, so I had the roots removed last week.

Interferon has a direct effect on tooth enamel, and with the decreased, acidic saliva and low white cells, dental caries is a real problem. Even though I had a dental checkup before Rx, and at 3 monthly intervals, I'm still another tooth short. I will be getting 3 implants later in the year.

In your situation, I certainly wouldn't start Rx until the implant was well and truly healed. I would also advise regular checkups while on Rx, together with intensive tooth brushing and alkaline mouth moisturisers.

My liver enzymes never became normal during Rx. This is is not unusual in cirrhotics. Have you had a liver biopsy to assess your level of fibrosis? Good luck for when you start Rx. Cheers.

I had a tooth pulled in late Dec. and it took 4 months to heal over. I did everything the dentist told me to do and I normally recover from a pulled tooth within 2 weeks. I was on treatment at the time and would have preffered to wait until I was done but I didn't have a choice, it had to come out. Your Dr and dentist should probably know what the other has going on, to help you make an informed decision. Best of luck with TX, it can be tough but it's worth it.

alan,

thanks for the encouragement. it's unfortunate the drs. aren't as well informed as the people in this community. also tomorrow i will be speaking with my implant specialist to inform him of the oral side effects. actually i'm wondering if they're related to platlette counts,or anemia. i'm so pleased to hear you've won the hepc battle.

12stepguy,

thanks for the insight. funny you should mention losing teeth due to weakened immune system. one of my implants is a replacement because my immune system was out of whack last summer when 1st done. it was so bad that i had a severe skin rash for 1.5 months until i found an allergist who recommended zyrtec. good luck with your dental work.

dillo,

thanks for responding and i'll take your advice. 1st thing tomorrow i'll call pricey implant specialist and let him know the oral side effects. i guess i'm just in panic mode because i got my intro packet and read all the horrid side effects.

sorry to hear you have elevated enzymes as well. have you tried treatment to resolve them?

Welcome to the class. My lowered immunity played hell with healing from dental issues. But I would expect that your immune system will be adequate to deal with past dental work for a month or so into the treatment. I lost a implant tooth and then had three more root canals done in the past 46 weeks. Malcolm thinks the drugs have played a role in his issues too. Maybe he can chime in.

The Incivek triple therapy should bring you AST/ALT numbers down fairly quickly, and by the time you finish they may be perfect. Can't say much about the dental implant, but I don't see why you should have to wait. But just make sure your doctor knows all about it.

I tracked my bloods during an Incivek triple, with 12 extra weeks of Riba/Pegasys, in a spreadsheet, which you are wlcom to view. The link should be in my signature, below.

Hi sandy.

I don't know how your feeling from your implant surgery so that hard to call. Have you asked your doctor about it? If it doesn't take much longer to heal I'd say wait but your doctor would know best.

I can't tell you if treatment resolve the elevated ferratin,ast/alt but mine are high too. What we all hope is after treatment our livers will get better and elevated results will go down.
