I knew you had gone through the procedure, but you had asked about post op care and how the notification process worked. That website explained all of that near the bottom of the piece.

Mainly to ask who will be your care giver when you get home after surgery ..... How to get a hold of you if a liver comes in are you on liver transplant list ????

Thanks for taking time out to reply i know the alcohol is not helping and because of my liver i had not drunk at all for 15/20 years it never was that important.But i just seem to be hitting brick walls what ever way i go,the triple therapy was on the cards until they found the varices and ascites so it apparently would have been dangerous to start tx.And like jill has said the oral tx is going to be some time,its as though you are just on a crossroad and all the exits are permantley closed.Ill have to get back on track and pick myself up again,the alcohol is not everyday but as we all know it soon creeps up and it takes over.Thanks again and i wish you the best.Colin.

Hi Colin,

With a MELD score of 59, it's unlikely that you will get on a Transplant List. Drinking alcohol will certainly increase your score and make it even harder. I hope your Doctor can get you on a Trial but if you continue drinking, you chances are zero. It's up to you, as you know.

Gasoline on the liver. Don't need that habit back
Or to switch addictions.
Keep your chin up. Find a church you like.

Hi Colin,

Sorry to hear about your bipolar diagnosis on top of everything else, and I hope you`re getting appropriate medical care and support to help keep it under control now. 

The new all-oral treatments aren`t likely to be available over here in the UK for quite a while yet, but take good care of yourself and your doctor might be able to get you into a clinical trial at some point.

Please do look after yourself, your health is your life and it has to be a priority, and I`m glad you`re doing your best to stay sober after a low point.  That is the most important thing you can do for your liver and also for your mental health.  We`re here for you, and you`re very welcome to contact me anytime, I`m always happy to help or just chat.

Ive now been told by my dr that im bipolar have a decompansated liver now rather than compensated but he wants me to wait for the new all oral tx for my hcv genotype 1a im o+ on the blood group.Dont know when new oral tx is due but i could do with it now,im a score of 59 according to my dr for the uk/end stage liver disease and to qualify you need 49 .So im very frustrated at present im on a low period and did start self harming and had an odd beer, but im 5 and a bit years clean of all the street drugs after 26 years addiction so im going try my best to keep on the right path.I often message jill/cinnamon girl what a star and prop jills been for me.All the best always.Colin.

Thanks for the link and all your knowledge on this matter and for taking the time to reply to my query,the 19th june is coming around rather fast.Ive just recieved a letter from the royal london hospital saying that they will more than likely do the operation, then tackle the hcv with a new all oral tx.Its been 3 years since i had the standard tx that was stopped after 12wks i was a non responder and could not have triple therapy because of the oesophageal vaices and ascites also portal hypertension it only leaves the transplant route.All the best Colin.

Mine was done at Georgetown Univ. Med. Ctr in Washington DC. It consisted (not in actual order) of an Ultrasound of heart, Stress test (reclining), EKG, Blood drawn (22 vials), and MRI (day after). My wife and I met with 8 specialists, from coordinator, surgeon, social worker, heptologist, nutritionist, and financial aid, plus 2 other people I forget.

Although I am not at the stage of needing a transplant, they recognize that the triple treatment is going to elevate the condition and change my status. So, before starting treatment, my MELD score was 10.0, which put me on the transplant list as inactive. Since being on treatment for almost 6 weeks, my MELD score has changed to 16.0. They're expecting it to increase even more. We'll see. It's a catch 22.

Could somebody who has been to see a liver transplant co-ordinator give me a run down on what my meeting will entail,im going to see one on the 19th june at the Royal London Hospital.Thanks Colin.
