Hi Locks4, and welcome from me too, I`m glad you found us.  I agree with Kellie that actually you`re lucky to have found out about the Hep C infection now, before you start having your children, even though getting this diagnosis is very hard for anyone to come to terms with at first.

If you were to have a baby before you cleared the virus, the risk of passing it on would be very low, but the fact is that there would be a definite risk and it would be something you`d be worrying about all through your pregnancy.  I had my 2 children before I knew about my Hep C status, and like many of us here have found, they both tested clear of the virus, but if I`d been in your position I would have wanted to get the infection treated first, and at your age you should`t have any problem achieving a successful outcome.

Hi there, it's a very big blessing that you have the info that you are HCV+ now, before having children. My son was born in 1986 c=section, and I didn't know. He doesn't have the virus thank God. We got terribly lucky on that. There are numerous studies about the odds of carrying over the virus to the baby during pregnancy and delivery. Some studies state it depends on the vl at time of pregnancy or how long mom has been infected, as well as how the baby is delivered.

Most state the incidence is low. But why take the chance? If I would have known and had a choice, I definitely would have waited.

But as most folks have advised here, talk it over with a qualified medical person when making your decision. Blessings to you!

Hi Locks4,

Welcome to the Forum. Things you need to find out are your Genotype and LFT's. As you're only 30 yo, you should have little or no liver damage, even with a VL of 2.5M. Once you get that info, your Hepatologist can give you some treatment options. It's an individual decision, but I'd rather put off childbearing until I was free of the virus. You may need to wait 1-2 years for the 'easier' drugs, but you have an excellent chance of being HepC free. Let us know when you have further results. Cheers.

Welcome to the forum you have found a good place with caring and knowledgable people.
 
To give advice and for you to make a wise decision requires you to receive a whole lot more information on your current condition of your liver and liver functions.
 
From a common sense standpoint a healthy woman / mother will be to handle a pregnancy  and bear  a healthier new born than  one with serious health issues. Your current health really is what has to be established and determined for your welfare and your future children before any decision should be made.  It maybe that you very well can, but why take the chance.  It sounds like you are taking the proper steps to find out.

I had 2 children by C-section before I
Knew I had Hep C. I didn't know till they
Were 7 and 15 years of age.
Fortunately, they are both Hep C Free!
We have had a brother and sister on the forum
With Hep C they caught from their mother.
I don't understand how some get Hep C
and some children don't.
So..... I would want to find an expert.

Wow, I can't imagine being in your shoes. My Doc said do the treatment before it gets ugly. He doesn't care a out numbers until they are UD. I am 48. Think long and hard and research and then make an informed, educated choice.

Getting pregnant while on treatment is a no no.as you said..and I think you should have a serious talk to your loved ones and doc about how long you can wait before getting treatment... have you had a biopsy?   Your viral load is under 3 million.....this is not so bad cause you sound young, so with youth on your side... 

I wish you good luck and prayers in your decisions.  I am far from an expert, but we have some really knowledgeable people on this forum to help.

Hi there.  I'm very concerned, like most people about my newly discovered situation.  What matters to me is that I have just gotten married and want to have children as soon as possible.  Knowing that, I have done some research and learned that it's a no-no to try doing treatment.  So, I am pretty much convinced I'm going to wait on treatment.  

I also just got partial results back today concerning my Quantitative Hep C Panel (I think) and my level was 2,549,216.    Any comments on this?  Thanks!
