I think in the States it is expected end of this year. For genotype 1 it wil be 12 weeks with interferon, but common, 12 weeks of that stuff is a lot better than 48 weeks. Europe is expected early 2014. But it will all depend on cost for each country.

Hi, My doctor seemed to be very assured that the end of the yr would be the time. I have to wait, I have to many contraindications to use interferon. When I was a RN doing MED/SURG , I cared for pts with cirrhosis, and it isnt a pretty disease.  As a matter a fact, not to scare anyone ; its horrifing. But dispite this, Im waiting. At this time, I can feel myself getting sicker.  Its a personal choice, and Im aware of what can and will happen eventually with out tx. Now that the public knows how rampant Hep C is among Boomers , science and tax dollars are starting to make some progress. Money talks and I suppose the drug companies believe the retirees arent just talking, they are screaming; HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!       Good Luck   Michaele

Hi Michaele.

When I decided to start triple therapy immediately, my specialist did mention the new drugs that are coming. He also added that they weren't exactly for sure how long it would be though-it may be very soon or it may be awhile off.

Hi,

with the diagnose in February 2012 I got the advice from 4 german hepatologist to wait with a therapy.

At that time they estimated the approval of an interferon-free therapy will be in spring 2015.

Their opinion: my liver is in such a good condition, that it isn't necessary to treat with telaprevir with its SX.

But I had no patience, so I decided to participate in a study.

cheers

I noticed you live in NC.  Did you notice the following study opening up for genotype 1s.  There is one starting in Chapel Hill, NC. and another in some other city in NC. You should call them.  I'm not sure if you have to do the RBV with this one though.

currently recruiting participants.

Hi Michaele,

Welcome back! If I remember correctly, you are Geno 1b. If so, there's no relief in sight.  Sofosbuvir may be approved in December, but for the Geno 1's, only for use with Peg and Riba. I remember your opinion of Interferon, so to avoid that, you will have to wait for one of the other DAA's (probably another 6-12 months). I don't think the AbbVie combo will be approved for at least 6 months. So, more waiting............. Cheers.

Hi, went to Dr today and was told new interferon free  tx out soon. She said goverment/drug companies are being so secretive ,that even drs dont know much yet. I was told here in , the drs she knows are holding off starting pts on tx until end of year when new tx is available to pts. not much info, but it sounds hopeful. Anyone hear anything? I havent been following the forum for a while and dont know whats been going on here.
