cheers Jill n Malcolm, people on this forum are easy target for "cure" sellers, so it's a good thing to keep an eye on potential frauds, spammers and trolls.

We are all thankful for the time and effort you place both into the forum and the support on offer to us. I personally spend a lot of time reading about Hep C, and I try to keep on top of any recent news. There is also a clear distintion between medical research data and personal experiences that make it an easy place for us to navigate. Thanks guys x

Thanks Malcolm, and I`ll just add a few words too.

We (the Admin team) are always reluctant to ban any member from joining in and posting on this forum, preferring to give them the benefit of the doubt whenever possible, but there are times when we have to consider the good of the forum as a whole.  For example, what happened in a recent case where we took various factors into account and came to the conclusion that the poster wasn`t as genuine as he claimed to be.  We can`t just stand by and let our members waste their precious time and energy replying to someone who we believe to be untrustworthy, we would be failing in our responsibilities to you if we did.  We will continue to preserve this forum as a safe haven for all who are are affected by Hep C and are in genuine need of support, community interaction, and information.  ~ Jill

Hey Malcolm

Thanks for that explanation, we really should appreciate the care and concern that the Jill and Malcolm have for the forum, also all the active members contribute to the good atmosphere that dominates the forum, it's both caring and intelligent.

BTW,  I did not know what the internet term Troll was so here is the definition

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic ...

So again all us baby boomers are learning as we go about the ever changing use of words applied to the e-world.

Hi guys,

As an open Forum, we have had problems with trolls and spammers in the past. The Moderators are on the lookout for suspicious posts and we can check IP addresses and check the large number of blacklist databases.

Most are harmless but often have researched HCV . Sooner or later we find that they are trying to sell something, or just annoy people. The content of the initial post usually arouses suspicion, which is then compounded by subsequent posts. Most go away after being questioned directly and when their thread is blocked. Some protest their innocence and then we discuss whether they should be banned.  We may make mistakes, but feel the integrity and security of the Forum is more important. This happened recently, which may explain some unusual posts and actions. Cheers.
