If anyone is still reading this thread, please contact Patient Access Network. They give grants to cover insurance copays for HCV drugs, up to $7000. They fully covered my copay. Easy application process, too. Check it out!

Ugh! I wish I had seen this before I met the Gilead Rep today!!  Mila, the rep told me that Gilead does not want anyone paying more than $5 for a copay, and they want to work with everyone individually as needed to ensure they do not have to pay too much.  Please call the number provided by Tig below.    My Dr.'s nurse told me that so far they have not had anyone who had to pay anything exorbitant,  and insurance companies have been covering everyone they have submitted so far.  I am in upstate NY....I did up my HCS plan this year in case I needed to pay something, but after the visit today, I am concerned now that I may not spend much at all  * might even lose the money i put in.   It may be time for me to get braces.

 

Anyway, I hope you are able to recoup some of that money!!

When we think about it bit more...1 gram of gold at present price is cca 40$, so 400mg of gold is 16$...1gram of Sofosbuvir is 2500$ (400mg=1000$), this is waaaaaay more precious than gold. Actually, what compaund is more expensive?

Mila, What a shame!  Tig56 suggestion is a good one-Gilead may help with part if not all of your co-pay! Best of luck...coat aside, it is a great treatment choice.

Bill...I was thinking the same "how did the world get this way". Because I am living off IRA money, I did a budget the last two years-(don't want to run dry).  I was self-employed/self-supported all of my life.  Keeping in mind I have always paid for health care...at the end of the year, my nothing of a car cost me more than my health care/insurance and living expense....Something is terribly wrong with this picture!  Time to sell the car, get back on my bike! and look for a job...

Zlikster-Like that! The original color of those pills were peach-did you notice they are now "gold"....

Just unbelievable. 

So what do we say? I won't pay it? We are a desperate group of unfortunate souls. In a world where we want everything and want it now. And we are OK with paying. Some people pay over 100$ a month for the latest i phone and services. And think nothing of it. A $60,000.00 car, a $500,000.00 house. College loans 20 to 100K. How did this world get this way?

Wana live?  Doing math 12 weeks is $90,000.00. ? If I could get off this planet i would. But before i do Gilead will get my 90K and the other $$$$ for Delacivier? or something. After all i did for hep c I should be up to about about 150K already 12 weks intf / riba then a trail 45 weeks intf / riba and DB025 and another 26 weeks of intf / riba and inciveck. the inciveck was around 40 K alone

Of course I didn't pay the whole thing My insurance The 45 week trail, and insurance I did pay some $1000's in co-pays and Dr visits and Test over time.  i may be worth a million in drugs when I'm cured. I consider myself fortunate to have gotten off so cheap. But somebody paid it for me insurance was billed? if there's a way Gilead can get paid in full they will  profit$$ and Profit$$$$$

My heart go's out to the people who don't know about these programs don't have insurance or actually fall between the cracks of the systems. I pray for all of you who no one will tell there is a way to get it free or so low you feel like your steeling. And it's not just us with HEP C  it's every illness and life threatening thing we can think of. I wouldn't know this program existed or if I even think I'll qualify. If it wasn't for all of you who are always looking and posting ways to cope with our HEP C. This Group / Forum is the greatest thing I've ever found and have the deepest respect and love for all of you.

End of month i go for 12 week check up and I'll be asking when will I get a chance again? They say life is the most precious thing on earth. At the same time there a price tag to keep it. Sick world. 

At least we have each other.

i wish you only the best in your journey. believe me you're doing the right thing. we all need to be proactive w/ this disease.

was wondering if you had applied for a clinical trial ? also what happens if you lose some pills ?

Hi Mila,

I just reread your post, I guess I missed your copay statement. How freaking ridiculous!! We've been discussing the outrageousness of the costs these meds are and you unfortunately are our first example of the highway robbery going on with Big Pharm and Insurance companies. I'm so sorry to hear that you're going to be out so much money. Have you checked the Gilead website and applied for their patient assistance program. If you need the information, I'll certainly find it again and make sure you get it. Supposedly for us PO' folks, they'll subsidize or pay for the script providing you qualify for it. You should def check it out.

Gilead is committed to ensuring that people with hepatitis C can access Sovaldi and has launched Support Path (www.MySupportPath.com) to provide assistance to patients who are uninsured, underinsured or who need financial assistance to pay for the medicine. The program consists of an integrated offering of support services for patients and providers, including:  
· Access to dedicated case managers to help patients and their providers with insurance-related needs, including identifying alternative coverage options such as federally-insured programs (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare) and health exchanges.   · Education and support, including a 24/7 nursing support service line and the ability to schedule an onsite visit from a clinical educator.  
· The Sovaldi Co-pay Coupon Program, which provides co-pay assistance for eligible patients with private insurance who need assistance paying for out-of-pocket medication costs. Thanks, Tig56. That makes sense. You guys are ALL so smart! I was worried I'd have to buy an extra bottle for a few pills... Yes, it's a racket and an outrage that everybody doesn't have equal access to ALL healthcare regardless of their financial situation.

Wow! What a racket they have going!! The reason you get 28 count bottles is because these types of anti viral therapies are counted by 7 day weeks, thus 28 pills = 4 weeks of treatment.

Most people won't be able to afford this, even with insurance. no My co-pay this month for JUST 28 Sovaldi pills was $5,556.70. It should go down next month, but I need 6 months of treatment.

I wonder WHY there are only 28 pills/bottle instead of 30, when the treatment is always for a specific number of months???
