Hello and  welcome back! Gerald, it is horribly expensive and yes, the Sovaldi costs on average $1000 dollars per pill. Treatment can run anywhere from 12 to 24 weeks. Doing the math, that's $84,000/12 week and $168,000/24. OUCH! But the good news is that many insurance companies are coming around and agreeing to cover these new medications because they're so effective and really save money and lives over the long term. I have compiled a list on the Knowledge Base section here, named "Payment Assistance Programs", I'll add the link here. There are several companies and organizations that are covering much of these costs and copays. Gilead, the company that makes Sovaldi has a great program that has helped many here. Johnson and Johnson also offer on for their new drug called Olysio. Check it out Gerald, I think you'll both be encouraged! Good luck!!

Julia has been waiting for the new medicines to come out so she won't have to take interferon.  Now we read that the new medicines will cost $1000 a pill!  Is this really true?  Will the new medicines be too expensive?  Will insurance not pay for them?  thanks.
