Hey Paul,

I had the same changes going on the whole time I was on treatment. Once I was finished, things returned to normal and I saw some nice improvements as well. Everything just "looks" better, is much more regular and things are just happier!! It's all good...

So something I did not mention is quite unusual. When I pee into the bowl there is what appears as an oily substance that is heavier than the water and sinks to the bottom of the bowl. Also, the urine has a really stale, old smell. Today, 4 weeks into treatment, the odour has gone and the oiliness as well.  Both had been evident for about the last five years. Also, my feces colour has become dark after being very pale.  Blood tests tomorrow !

Hi Paul,

In Australia we use umol/L and the normal range for Total Bilirubin is 4-20.

Dark urine from bilirubin only occurs when the levels are well above 20,and this indicates the liver is failing. You can actually buy a paper strip from a Chemist, that shows whether bilirubin is present in urine.

You should try to drink enough fluid so that your urine remains straw-coloured. As Tig said, many food dyes, medications etc. can all cause abnormally dark urine. Having your gall-bladder removed doesn't make any difference. Cheers.

Yea, I suspect it has something to do with that.  What is normal ? Mine has been around 16 but last test was 12.5 umol/L or 0.7318 mg/dL

I don't have the numbers right now but the next time I see my clinic nurse I will get copies of my last couple of labs and post some results

Hi Paul,

Well, I've had my Gall Bladder removed too and haven't noticed a difference in UA color before or after that either. I don't know that it has an impact on that anyway. It sounds like you're passing your water intake rather quickly. I'd try keeping your intake balanced throughout the day and see how that affects it.

My urine changed when I had my gall bladder removed.  I drink heaps of water every day.  Urine clears after the first couple of glasses, and stays clear until I don't drink for a couple of hours.  Then it is back to dark brown and stinky.

Hi Paul,

I never saw a difference with urine color (specific gravity/concentration) between my pre treatment and post treatment (SVR). If you're experiencing some renal issues, your blood work will show some changes that will alert your physician anyway. If you're hydrating properly and not taking any supplements, you should shouldn't be noticing dark yellow urine color. I didn't see any differences at all during treatment in that respect. Some multi vitamins will darken your urine color and a way to determine if that is the problem, change the time of day you take your vitamin. If it's the vitamin, you'll notice the darkest color following the vitamin. I could even smell the difference in vitamins. Vitamin E, B2 and B12 will affect urine color the most.
