I will be going on this with you starting this Friday I believe!

I am getting ready to turn 51, I found out a couple of years ago, and I've been waiting for an interferon-free treatment since I heard those were in the works. I didn't have any symptoms either. Sometimes I do feel a bit tired, but I attributed that to getting older, not eating or sleeping right, and lifelong anemia. I hear people (who probably aren't infected) complaining about tiredness often, so I thought it was a normal thing.

Hepatitis hasn't interfered with my life too much yet, other than having to tell my sons they would need to get tested and the shame of having to explain why... If I feel less tired afterwards, that will be a big plus.

They sounded like I would need to take drugs for only 12 weeks. Heck they are even paying me $75 for each visit, so there is my gas paid for and a nice lunch somewhere!

I am pleased when I read about the results of these drugs, and tickled to death I finally got into a trial!

Please keep us posted on how you are doing hippiechick!

Hi hippiechick,

Welcome to the Forum.

The AbbVie trio of drugs has been through several Trials, with and without Ribavirin. I haven't seen anyone else on Topaz II. Best of luck and keep us posted. Cheers.

I am an old hippie too,, Welcome to our Forum,, You will find folks here are kind and knowledgeable and will help if they can.

Your situation is a rare one, but sooner or later we are going to have a lot of floks like you because the Doctors are now accutly looking for hep c.  Before the protocol was to ignore it because there is nothing they can do about, up till now.  I got mine from my mother who got hers from a blood transfusion back in 1976.  When Black lights were still cool.  and you could still ride around in the back of a pickup truck without getting hassled. Those were the good ole days.

We are all in this together Keep your stick on the ice."Red Green Show"

I posted this in the Clinical Trial thread, maybe I should have started here?

Abbvie Topaz II (This may be the first arm of this trial as I can not find any mention of it anywhere.)

Took my first dose July 21. The regimen is:

ABT-450/Ritonavir/2 ABT-267 75mg/50mg/12.5mg (2 per day)

ABT-333 250 mg (2 per day)

5 Ribaviran

I was worried about possible side effects (the Dr. said I might be itchy, bitchy and/or yellow, haha!) but so far I feel great. Slight insomnia but I am used to that with menopause smile.gif I still walk an hour a day and swim 3 times a week. No fatigue, no nausea and (so far) no jaundice. Maybe a little extra itchy but nothing to cry about. The bitchy part, well...

I have never had symptoms for Hep C, it was discovered during a routine physical. I understand that many of you sought treatment because you were showing symptoms such as fatigue but this really came out of left field for me. After my first doctor visit, when the specialist asked me if I intended to seek treatment, I realized I had some research to do. What kind of Dr. tells you that you have a life threatening disease and then asks if you want treatment?? Long story short I found a clinic in San Francisco doing trials and I tested. Didn't qualify the first time but went back last month and qualified for the Abbvie Topaz cohort.

I probably contracted the virus in 1978 (tattoo) or 1980 (blood transfusion). I have taken thyroid meds since 1999 but never had any red flags until 2012 when I was told my liver numbers were high. Because I prefer denial I merely cut back on my drinking and started taking milk thistle. My numbers were lower in 2013 but the Dr. insisted on more tests and we found the virus.

53 yrs old. genotype 1a (cc) VL 4 mill, possibly cirrhotic
