Hello Amigo,

Welcome to the forum. I had to remove the link to the generic website in your previous post. There are hundreds of similar websites out there and you have to be careful about whom you trust. We do not make recommendations on such services. We have a section on the forum with some information, no endorsements intended.

HCV Info

You have to work with your Mother's doctor to determine what is the most appropriate treatment for her. There are multiple treatments on the market now, Harvoni is one of many. The best treatment for her may be something entirely different. The genotype, viral load, previous treatment, etc., all impact the type of and treatment length of most new DAA's.

Hi everyone! I have found today the pre-order offer for generic harvoni from India. I have been informed from newsletters that generic version become available soon within 2-3 months on Indian market . Does anyone know something else about this?

Any ideas? My Mom suffering from fibrosis stage 3 and i feel that here is only one way to beat HEP using harvoni. But our insurance would not cover branded version!!!

Does anyone waiting the generic version like me?

Any suggestions, please .

Thanks and regards,

Alex

Hello again Yaser,

After leaving my previous post I looked into the availability of Harvoni in France. Seems as though it is available and according to the included article, the manufacturer Gilead, has made some arrangements with the French government to discount the drug. Here is that article. I hope it helps explain things a little better!

Hello Yaser,

I don't know if Harvoni has been released in France yet, we'll have to look into that. It has only been released and available in the US since October 10 of this year. Sovaldi is another thing and should be available in the EU. However, the issue of medical insurance and coverage is vastly different in each of the EU countries I believe. So you'll have to check with the officials in France about your mother's eligibility for care and medication. Be aware that it is an extremely expensive medication and that has been an issue here in the states that have made it difficult for many to get. Regardless of where you take your Mother for treatment, you're going to have to contact a specialist and/or hospital to begin the process and determine costs and eligibility. Sorry I can't provide you any more information than that. I understand that healthcare in France is based on a universal care model, so citizenship may determine much of her eligibility. Here's a brief explanation of their system that might help you understand it better: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_France If we can answer any other questions, let us know. Good luck!

Hello Yaser, welcome to the forum.

I`m very sorry your question was overlooked, and unfortunately there is no easy answer.

Harvoni, or any other HCV treatment drug, needs to be prescribed by a hepatologist or liver specialist and a course of treatment taken under medical advice and supervision, and so I`m afraid we can`t help you with this.

I`m sorry your mother has Hep C and I can only recommend that she sees a doctor in the Yeman who is experience in treating HCV and follow their advice on treatment options.

Wishing you and your mother all the best of luck.  ~ Jill

Dear Isiscat,

Exactly! This is what I was driving at! Still, think it will be O.K.

as-so far every time  I panic-turns out; I didn't need to. But; I'm ambulatory-

my husband wasn't.

~I'm Praying~ because ;that's what I do- now! My husband was lost to Hep.C /MRSA

because they never knew he had Hep.C when he had Colon surgery! YIKES!

& because of a bunch of stuff [!] I didn't understand, when I was in shock; our ship was sunk.

4 weeks, when  I need 12 weeks? Is this the usual?

                                                                               Cheers ~Eunice~

just say I bought Hershey(the confectioner) and I paid $50,000,000 for the company, it wouldn't mean that I could charge $100,000 for a couple of chocolate bars would it....so how come those fat bastards can?

This is exactly what Gilead is doing and worse because buying chocolate is optional but buying life saving drugs is not.  This conduct goes beyond irresponsible; it is like financial terrorism and patients are the hostages.

Hi Angel 67:

Check out Gilead's first three quarter sales for Sovaldi:  Q1: 2.3 billion,   Q2: 3.5 billion,  Q3: 2.8 billion.

That equals 8.6 billion from the first 9 months of selling Sovaldi alone.  This is before Harvoni was even FDA approved!  Projected sales of Harvoni are ~12 billion in the first year.

Considering that for every 1 dollar spent on R&D 19 dollars are spent on promoting we are clearly paying not for the drug but for advertising and selling it. Something needs to change here.

The French have the right idea.  Before they made the deal the French hit Gilead with some tax surprises.   Enough with the carrot, time to use the stick.

Our Gallic friends knew where to stick the carrot! It's funny as I can understand why governments are saying,"This stuff is too expensive". Even though I lose out, I totally understand that Gilead are taking the piss. I know they want to get their money back, but for instance, just say I bought Hershey(the confectioner) and I paid $50,000,000 for the company, it wouldn't mean that I could charge $100,000 for a couple of chocolate bars would it....so how come those fat bastards can?

France gets larger discount on Sovaldi than its neighbors

Nov 20 2014, 12:04 ET | By: Douglas W. House, SA News Editor mail_icon.png

  • France's hard line negotiations with Gilead Sciences (GILD -0.1%) over Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) pricing paid off. The agreed-upon price per box will be 13,667 Euros which is 5,000 lower than the original price. The full 12-week regimen cost will be 41,000 or ~51,000 Euros. This is the lowest price in Europe and will go down further if volume targets are hit.
  • Sovaldi's full regimen price in the U.K. is ~$57,000 and ~$66,000 in Germany. It's $84,000 in the U.S. but this is the list price.
  • Recently-approved Harvoni (ledipasvir and sofosbuvir) is available in France on a temporary basis at 48,000  Euros for a full regimen (16,000 per box). Negotiations over long-term pricing are underway.
