I'm a blue collar type, just pretty simple. I saw a cure coming 2 years ago 99/100% cure BMS / GSI  Gileads greed stepped in and here we are 2 years later  1,100 $ a pill

Its great to be here and still have my liver ( just took my first pill this morning ) 167 to go lol.  I'm extremely happy but still get a knife in my gut when I think how long it took and the struggles to get approvals / co-pays / sick leave / not available here or there.. I can't even start to wrap my head around the deals in other country's We're in they're out we pay they don't, just so uneven and so unfair. some places don't even know whats going on.  I really want to get off this planet. 3rd world is still starving.  My stand is with the underdog no mater what. My brother in lay died Nov 5th liver failure  Cancer stated in colon spread to his hep c liver 3 months and gone. when I done fighting the dragon I feel I have to dedicate something to paying it forward Give my time somehow to stand up to this $#!^%$$$ injustice. i have insurance I am blessed beyond what i deserve. I'll pay it back ( forward ) somehow. Just waiting for the right place.

Harvoni started 12-12-14 for 24 wks PrevTX Geno 1 stage 3 cirrhosis - non resp Int/ ribv. Started Trial  in Aug 2011 -July 2012 into Incivek relapsed  Feb 2013 Had 72 weeks on interferon & Riba.

I think is was inevitable that a $1000.00 per pill would be looked at as over the top and ridiculous by most peoples standard of equity an fairness. Most of us realize that modern day new medicines cost basis is calculated based on research & development not the raw cost of materials. The greed factor is not just Gilead its the whole Pharma industry, IMO big pharma with these kinds of price products are going "kill the goose that lays the golden eggs".

Gilead set there price based on the highest price they could get regardless of its ramifications on the Insurance industry and the people in general. The other part that ticks off most people is, the price that Gilead is selling the same product around the world for is considerably less to many countries with higher standard of living than the USA. Just ask your yourself if people were not as desperate for this cure would they charge as much? All these companies price these high because they can get it. That's the bottom line. Profits come first the welfare of the nation/world comes second.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. If anyone can squeeze a dime out of Gilead, I'm betting on Chimicles.

A company that paid 12 billion for the rights to make Sovaldi is gonna get their money back.

Making drugs is a crapshoot, 95% fail to make it to FDA approval, I for one would have sold my house if need be to get the life saving drug for my wife.

And while were at it, and don't think that insurance companies aren't a bunch of greedy suckers also.

Gilead made the drug, no one is making you buy it, this wasn't going to be made for them to hand it out free of charge.

Like others have said, I don't know of anyone who has paid full price, our copay with Gilead's support path was 5.00 per month.

I really don't know if they wouldn't give it to you if you cant get approved for it. Its not easy but many who try have managed to get approved.

My best advice, keep trying!!! never give up.

I'm not an antitrust expert, but I've been expecting litigation from one of the large healthcare providers and it appears that SPTA is the first. If competing pharmaceutical companies (Abbvie) aren't successful with their drugs, Gilead could have some legal issues down the road. Class action antitrust litigation will not likely change anything in the short term.

With the assistance programs, we are getting a deal on our co-pay.  BUT--What is it costing the insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. in the US ???  And should a drug company be allowed to make tremendous profits on treatment for a disease that threatens so many?? 

It is an interesting question.  Any Thoughts??

After insurance and Gileads reduced copay program, I only paid $15 for my Sovaldi. The Olysio part cost me $75 after the Janssen reduction. I don't know anyone who paid full price, do you?
