Hi Bill & Josh :)  Have you tried an analgesic creme applied directly to the painful areas? I hate taking pills because I hate stressing my digestive system and my liver. It's painful. The creme stinks but it relieves pain without causing more problems. Best body cleanser is a water fast, IMO. Or clear liquids w/ low sugar/salt. I've read about vinegar, and it may be good for stimulating digestive bile- if you need more. Maybe ya don't? Anything that stimulated my gallbladder just plain hurt (mine is gone now).

Josh, I found a  diet website that lets you track your intake of all macro and micro nutrients. I was surprised at how little iron and calcium I was getting each day. It takes a bit of work to make sure you have accurate nutrient data, but it helped me make better food choices. http://www.sparkpeople.com/   I prefer to get nutrients through food, rather than supplements. Of course, if you have absorption issues, a blood test is the best way to determine if you need supplements.

Hope you both feel better very soon!

My 2 cents

i have low platelets between 60 and mid 80's and have been there over a year almost 2 since last treatment.

i kept pushing for answers ( fear of needed knee replacement ) In short I was told stop worrying you have Hepc inflamed spleen  this is all part of the game It may improve when your clear but for now, sit tight. If I decide I need the knee they will address it.

pain ? I do use Tylenol only the recommended dose per day . Not every day 2 on 2 off --3 off 1 on  I've been doing that for like 3-4 years. My doctors don't get upset with it. I don't use pain Meds I'm afraid i like them too much, that's all I need.

I Josh- Mallani made good comments. I'm cirrhotic, just reached SVR in October. My platelets have been in the 60's for at least a year and I've been told that even at that level I could have surgery with no problems and no transfusions. I was evaluated and tested for liver transplant last year due to possible carcinoma. In liver education clinic we were told no Ibuprofen but in dire painful circumstances we could take a low dose of Tylenol. That's just what my transplant team recommended, you should check with your own doctor and take their advice for your situation, I think some doctors do allow a little Ibuprofen. Your doctors will know what's best for your liver. Best wishes!

Josh,

Your ceruloplasmin levels are normal! Forget the copper mate.

Your platelets are in the lower normal range but so what? Many normal patients have levels lower than yours.

In a chronic viral infection, it is common to have an increased percentage of lymphocytes. This is why the neutrophil percentage appears low. Don't worry about it.

Try to limit ibuprofen- this is not kind to your liver.

Too much internet! Cheers.

so im looking at my blood results and researching why things are low ... and i find through deduction my dear Watson that HEP C

totaly beats the sh** out of your liver all be it slow.... but what is glossed over is the fact that it beats the ya u know :) out of your blood at a much faster rate...

SO here i present exhibit A: I am plagued by low platelets ... low nuetrophils .... and low ceruloplasmin.... ... the only thing that adds up is its related to the virus... white and red bloodcells.....

so upon more reflection I wonder besides RX... If there is a way to correct this keeping in mind all other things seem to be in specified norms.....

which leads me to think I need more copper and Iron but especially copper... lack of copper can cause cuts to heal slow wounds of any kind... ..True ive noticed....

is related to prolonged back pain .... and numerous other things... another way of looking at this is a normal person without hep c has normal plates and copper and Iron right? cant argue that .....

so we know the virus diverts all available or a good portion of your white blood cells to attack it round the clock... and platelets are comprised largely of Iron....

http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/minerals/copper/

so should i begin by either getting more of these from foods ???  http://www.livestrong.com/article/127280-foods-increase-blood-platelets/

amino acids are good 2......  what im really asking is is there a way to help my Liver in its fight? I am gaining ground my VIRAL LOAD droped from 5.5 million to whatever it is now.... in 6 months off of alcohol and analog cigaretes.... However doctors Gastros say your VL dosent mater till TX.... well i call BS because for people below 6million they give 8 weeks Harvoni... any thing over and it goes to 12  per the guidelines.... so Numbers matter all the dam time regardless of what you may here or those guidelines wouldnt exist would they ???

I mean you guys are pretty smart I could eat foods get the actual vitamins... or do both OR the third option is do nothing and wait for treatment... and we all know how much we all like to wait :)

also it says excersise can help alot too and i must admit i havent done yoga or jogged or lifted weights in like 4 or 5 months so a return to that is in the cards ....

anyway if you managed to read all that psyco babel I thank you and await your Opinions :) thanks

edit

TRANSFERRIN226.0240.0 - 480.0mg/dL

=possible iron overload... so copper may be the only thing i need i guess...????

also while at work if i know im doing painfull manual labor ive been taken like 5 ibuprofen and 1 or 2 hydrocodone on 2 days out of the week ... pretty horrible lower back pain but i ve read that pain pills are not your liver or bloods friend at all ... and we all know healing is slow which spiral back to PAIN.... SO what i will do from here forward is stop taking them and start yoga as it made back pain go away ...... bare in mind i weigh like 130-135 lbs so a pill u take is proably 2 times concetration to a Lighter person ????  babel babel :)

making sense of how your body operates is very complicated how 90 percent things look normal and the other 10 dont... and its that 10 you want to help correct in any way you can naturaly or with treatment???     most of this stuff is over my head and many people will go thier are no answers KID... but i think there is thats how these bio science engineers come up with these Powerfull treatments they break down the lines and dots bit by bit till they understand what chemical compounds attack the virus .... and then they charge way to $*%&$#*# much for them :)

its245am now i go nap nap ... but iwill go to the store later today... but ILL come here first I may call my gastro to give thanks for test results and ask if she will keep me in the loop about denials and appeals and ask her about my ceroplasm and platelet theorys... read sumwhere copper has alot to do with nuetrophil counts too while i was researching ceroplasm.......
