Michaele,

It can affect the ALT/AST values, it might alter the values momentarily. The action Clindamycin provides to your own unique situation is the reason it was prescribed. I hope you're feeling better this morning. If it gets any worse without the Clindamycin, I would go back in and tell them your concern. Don't delay if your gut tells you something isn't right! Keep in touch, we care!!

Hi M,

I just spoke with with a pharmacist friend and she said that you should be fine. Clindamycin can have a slow half life in people with serious liver disease, but no exacerbation of your liver disease should occur. The actual risks are quite low on that dose. It evidently has a bit of anti inflammatory action, along with wide spectrum coverage of any potential bacterial infection. They often prescribe much higher doses of it, so she feels you were given this strictly as a preventative against infection versus dealing with an active infection. She recommends you take each pill with a full glass of water and to stay in an upright position for a few minutes after swallowing it, to assure that it goes down. She mentioned that they can be hard to get down if you don't.

I hope this helps you. It's always up to you, but it sounds like the doctor is aware of your cirrhosis and feels this short term use is warranted. I sure hope you're feeling better by tomorrow!

Tig , the Dr prescribed Clindamycin , I kept telling him Im cirrhotic and getting up there in years.  My Rx was 300mg 3x a day/8hrs. I took 1 dose but its been nagging at me , and I should have called my Hep Dr. When I final read enough to scare me silly I called the office oncall person. She wasnt alot of help , but we decides that Im not going to take it, So I'll do the Prednisone and antihistamines . I see the Dr on Monday and will ask him to write for something that isnt so toxic to the liver. Why blow my liver now that its just getting better. By the way clindamycin can cause dementia, and alot of fatal bleeding. Maybe I should have insisted on a safer drug while I was there.  Any thoughts?       Michaele     PS: Its always something!!!

Thanks for the update, Michaele. I'm so glad you went in. From your description, it sounded like you had some serious inflammation and allergic reaction going. My wife has ended up in the ER for a single fire ant bite. When that kind of reaction happens, it's always safest to have it looked at. I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks to everyone all the support. Went to walk in clinic, was given 3Rx and an OTC, Pictures were taken and dotted lines drawn to measure for increased swelling and redness. Allergic reaction and infection = cellulitis  Thanks again Michaele

Hi Michaele...what a nasty thing to happen, it must be so sore!

I agree with the others, I would get a doctor to have a look at it, at the soonest opportunity.

Let us know how it goes, and best of luck with your EOT results!  smile

That really sounds like an allergic reaction so you should have that checked out for sure.

Hi Michaele,

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, wasp stings hurt like hell. I think it sounds like you need to see the doc or a walk in clinic because of the increasing redness and swelling. Were you able to get the entire stinger out? Many don't know that bee sting venom is acidic and can be neutralized with baking soda right after the sting, but wasp venom is alkaline and soda has no effect. Use vinegar on wasp stings. You may need a steroid to reduce that inflammation, so I recommend a trip to see the doc. Don't delay! Good luck...

Hi all,  has anyone had to treat a wasp sting ? I took Benadryl but after 3 days the bite site is getting bigger and bigger. Wonder if I need to see the doc. I did apply antihistamines to the site. Redness and swelling starting to wrap around the arm. Hope everyone is fine  I do my 12wk post  EOT blood work Monday.    michaele
