Beyond the liver, HCV chronic infection leads to a multifaceted systemic disease. Some extrahepatic manifestations are immune mediated while others seem to be driven by chronic inflammation. Such extrahepatic manifestations should be well known by clinicians.

Hi John.. well yes these health issues do look quite alarming when listed together, but remember that majority of people infected with Hep C won`t get many of these problems, if any at all.  The most common symptom of having Hep C is fatigue but some of these issues that are included occur quite rarely.  I would think that once the virus is cleared and SVR has been achieved then the risk of developing the cancers mentioned here would decrease. 

 

Hi Marsha... I`m fine thanks.. enjoying being out in my garden at this time of year.  I`m particularly fond of my avatar rose, it`s a climber with a very sweet scent. 

 

Thanks Malcolm...that`s a good point and I think sometimes we expect too much too soon post tx and wonder why we haven`t returned to `normal` after being infected with this virus for decades.

sounds pretty dire?  Do we still have an increased chance of some of these blood cancers after SVR?

Undetected at week 2 on solvaldi/rib/interferon:  stayed through week 12 but virus came back as soon as I stopped.  on   Harvoni and ribravirin 24 weeks undetected after two. 8/2/15  12 week EOT  UNDETECTED!  SVR

Hi Jill,

That's a good, complete summary. It's important to realize that some of these extra-hepatic manifestations aren't cured by SVR ,  i.e. there may be permanent damage from the virus.

Most doctors have little experience in these.
