The price must be good. Patients with a Health Care Card (disadvantaged, Pensioners etc) will pay $6.10 for a 12 week course of treatment with Harvoni.

Other patients will pay $37.50.

As it has been estimated to cost $1 billion to treat 200,000 patients, it means Harvoni must cost the Government <$50k for a 12 week course.

YAAHHOOO ! For Australia

I hope they have negotiated a great price because the price issues has made it harder for every person to benefit from this break through drug.

Hi Greg,

Yeah mate, this is the good stuff. Interferon is long gone. It's what you have been waiting so long for.

Happy Christmas from Bribie Island!

Good news indeed - perhaps the Aussies can now teach the Kiwis a bit about treating HCV???

Hi Malcolm,

Is this the Interferon free treatment? Haven't kept up with what's out there for a while. Hope this is the one we all have been waiting for.

Cheers,

Greg

We have had a new Health Minister since Malcolm Turnbull took over as Prime Minister a few months ago. She made it clear she would act on the HCV Medicines approved by our TGA early this year.

We have lobbied her and the result is free access to the drugs from March 1st., 2016. All patients will have access, regardless of fibrosis stage and Genotype.

It is interesting to note that AbbVie are not included- they did not bother making a submission to the TGA. So, no Viekira-Pak here.

The drugs available will be Harvoni, Sovaldi and Daclatasvir. The Geno 3's are lining up for Sovaldi/Daclatasvir, and not before time.

It's a great Christmas present for the estimated 400,000 patients who have relapsed or been denied treatment.
