Hi Brownie,

Sorry, I've been away to Syney for a meeting so I missed your post.

I had a repeat FibroScan at EOT + 12 months. The result came in at 8.8 kPa which I don't believe. This is F2-3 on my Hepatologist's scale ( he also doesn't believe my reading).

This led me to do a paper correlating FibroScan and biopsy at Greenslopes Hospital over an 8 year period, which I can't publish due to copyright.

This has really shaken my belief in FibroScan but I'll hold my tongue.

I am sure I'm still cirrhotic but my liver certainly looks better on Ultrasound.

I've arranged to have a biopsy in March, so that will be really interesting.

My comments on FibroSure are well known. I think it's a rubbish test, but that's just my opinion. I have had FibroSure's done, and all three were way out. Others will disagree.

I have some updated facts on MRI fibrosis staging, which I'll post at another time.

Cheers.

Hi Brownie,

Let me horn in here and provide you a link where Malcolm discussed this. I'm sure he'll post here when he checks in, but this info may hold you over. I personally would trust the Fibroscan over Fibrosure. The Fibrosure can be altered by so many variables, medication, disease, etc., that I question the results often enough to be left with a big question mark. Everything improves, so I hope to hear one day, that they have a test that provides more confident results than they currently provide.

Hi Malcolm,

I was just wondering if your previous fibroscan score of 30 kPa has since changed? I know mine went down almost 2 kPa's within a year after treatment but of course I still have cirrhosis.

Also, which is more accurate, a fibroscan or the FibroSure test for F2-F3 grading?

I hope you're doing well and had a wonderful holiday season!

Brownie

Thanks.  Wow, that is good news.  After my history with drinking and symptoms and pain and sickness, I was for sure it would be higher.  I hope insurance covers it.  I'll keep you all posted.

Hi Scott,

Here's a link to a very good scoring card. According to the current scoring, you measure a solid F2-3, my opinion of course. There are different scores based on the primary cause. They have been relaxing the fibrosis requirement lately. Many carriers, even the VA, have been approving more F3-4's. Let us know what you find out. Good luck....

(Both of our links refer to a similar scale)

Scott,

9.7 kPa equates to F2-3.

Here's a link to the chart.

I know I haven't been on here an a little while.  Just was frustrated about how things were moving forward.  However, I finally got my Fibroscan.  The radiologists said they can't tell me but I did see the result of 9.7 Kpa.

Now, I tried to look up conversion charts.  From what I found, If you have over 14 you have a 90% chance of having cirrhosis.  If you are under 7Kpa you are normal liver.

Mine was 9.7 Kpa.  Said medium under it.  Now doctor hasn't called me yet to give results.  We were hoping for stage 2 to 3 for insurance purposes.  Stage 3 to 4 would be guaranteed treatment, stage 2 to 3 he said he had some tricks up his sleeve to attempt to get me the treatment.  It all depends on my insurance.  He said he has seen them treat stage 1 in someone with no biopsy.  So, I have Health partners and the VA.  VA says I have to have stage 4 or cirrhosis.

Just curious if someone has a chart that corresponds these or if someone has had a number close to mine and knows the stage.  9.7 medium.  She let me peak at it but wasn't allowed  to  talk.  She did say, she thinks I will be happy.  I told her before I went in, I wanted to have 2 to 3 so I could get treated so that is what I guess she meant.  I know that is bad wishing for a damaged liver but this is the only way to give my mind at ease.  I would rather have compromised liver and be cured then have healthy liver and have this disease especially since I am symptomatic now and feel all sorts of crap because of virus.  They don't take that into account though.

So please send me link or what grade I would be with that result.  I will find out tomorrow but don't want to wait.
