Hi Sherri welcome.

As others have said, try another doctor or a specialist, if it's not too late. Quite a few of us have had run-ins with doctors lol. Don't let it bring you down- oh I too feel a song coming on....and yes we may be done with the past but the past isn't done with us BUT as Bill eluded to, treatment has come a long way. Be good to yourself and your liver, lecture over!

Hi Sherri,

Welcome to the forum. You are at the right place for sure. I've met so many really good people here, and it is a wealth of information very much needed for the person who has HCV and wants to follow the rules for healthy living.

I read about the difficulty you experienced in employment. I'm not a legal expert, but something is not quite right about the Dr's refusal to clear you for employment. Maybe if you go to the specialist, he or she will clear you, but for sure, if your not cleared, I'm sure they would be bound to tell you in writing why you are not cleared. I don't think because a person has HCV, that is an  acceptable reason not to employ. In fact, that would not be legal I would assume. But maybe your doctor feels this is appropriate medical protocol, and that the specialist would actually be responsible to clear you for the job, because other than having HCV, you are in good health.

I am a newbie also, just joined this month. I am not an expert in anything that I know of, but I am always making new friends here, and feel free to ask people questions, including myself. If I know the answer, I'll tell you, and if I don't know the answer, I'll tell you I don't know. There are many things good about this forum, one of them being that there is no reason for anyone to lead you down the wrong path. Everyone hear has demonstrated kindness and integrity.

Sorry you have had to feel rejected like that, that sks .even many people in the medical field have or  had Hep C they still practice. But maybe it's blessing for you

Your about to seek treatment for something that may be getting out of hand. 40 years with HEP C may be catching up to you and it doesn't matter at all how you got it. the Treatment today is much more effective without the real horrible side affects 3 years ago. You can now be really free of it much easier. The gurus here will be happy to guide you. You need to be healthy for you so you can have a happier life. No job is worth a shot liver. Myself and many others where barley standing and we're still here. Your in good company. We can't always get what we want, but sometimes we get what we need. Sound Good?

Welcome Sherri.

I had an issue with a manager who wanted me to work till 8 at night after working till 4:30 or 5 for years. My liver doc wrote a note stating I could not work that late and had to work normal hours. She refused to comply and I did my homework and let HR know that due to the nature of my illness they needed to provide reasonable accommodation per the ADA. HR knew their stuff but the manager did not and was let go. Sorry you are experiencing the difficulties with the new job but definitely do some research.

Hi Sherri,

Welcome to the forum ... it's great that you're here, lots of warm and caring folks here and this place is a treasure trove of knowledge, you'll like it.

I've had HCV for over 40 years now and just found out recently. I'm very glad I found this group.

You'll soon find out that there is one success story after another happening around here on a very regular basis.

As you probably know, getting treatment is VERY doable with the new meds they have out now.

Sounds like you just need a different Dr regarding signing off on employment.

Hi Sherri,

Welcome to the group, I'm glad you found us! I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you experienced with the medical clearance though. I wasn't aware of any hiring restrictions simply because you are Hep C positive. Did your doctor simply pass you on to another doctor for approval, treatment or both? Something doesn't sound proper about that refusal. 

Many people are just finding out they're carrying the virus, decades after their last transgression. Don't beat yourself up over something that you can't change. You can however, seek treatment and be done with the disease causing the problem.

There will be others come along to welcome you here as well. I saw your post regarding the LA support group and wish you luck with that! We have a pretty good group here too, and I hope you stay with us.

Hi! Well, I've known that I carry this virus since 2001 but probably contracted it in the late 70's. I lived in denial for the first 5 years after I tested positive, still drinking on the weekends. Even so, I've tried to lead a healthy lifestyle and have experimented with a few supplement protocols over the years. I have continuously taken milk thistle for many years. I'm 54 and am in fairly good health, although lately I have noticed more HCV related problems. I also have vitiligo which has recently progressed at a higher rate. There are correlations but I can't say for sure that it is caused by the HCV.

Unfortunately, just this week, I was not passed on a physical exam required for a teaching position. I recently relocated to California from out of state and have been working on the credentials out here. Finally approved for hire, the only step left is passing the physical exam. So frustrated!!! The dr refused to sign the form and said that I need to see a specialist. I had requested a referral, otherwise he would not even know that I have Hepatitis. Anyway, I did not expect this and became very angry, yelling at the dr. Then I spent a couple of hours crying. Still paying for the sins of my youth.
