Yup, fortunately I get most packages (programs) right through Debian repositories, I run several distros of Linux but they are all Debian based.

Deb is one of the most stable of OS's and updates and adding software is done with relative ease.

I don't compile (unless I have to, which has become virtually never) I'm fairly lazy that way but I do like a tailored system and I can do that quite easy with a KDE desktop environment.

My favorite distros are just plain ol' Debian, Linux Mint Debian and SolydK ... I also keep a Linux Mint KDE version on my box to keep up with what's going on with that fork. I like the KDE desktop, it looks somewhat like Windows XP on steroids but there's a WHOLE lot more going on behind the scenes. Graphics are awesome in KDE and configuring codecs pretty much a piece of cake.

... you're probably thinking ... I had to ask ... 1854642?AWSAccessKeyId=1XXJBWHKN0QBQS6TGPG2&Expires=1456963200&Signature=ttISg%2F4VgYpQr3D1IiMimjVSzuc%3D

You must be a sourceforge fan. They put out great OS software and anybody can get it and modify it. I have in the past got some great programs there. It's all free of course and some you just don't find on the market.

Power to OSOS !*

I know it's marketing and to some degree convenience (but at what Cost) and probably more than anything Habit but It just amazes me that people pay top dollar for an Os then top dollar for any sofware that they may want to use on it rather than get it all for free ... OS and all software ... Go Figure ... we are creatures of habit, aren't we?

Macs are nice but they are Spendy! ... if I had unlimited funds (wouldn't that be a treat, lol) I'd probably own a Mac to play with then go to my comfortable, little ol' linux box to get something done.

*Open Source Operating System) ...

Yes, exactly and I started using it when I lost my very first long post that I ever made when I joined this forum. Notepad all the way.

Hey,

Thanks guys for the advice and trying to get me sorted.

I'll try again, sorta/kinda like you said. Never used notepad .txt before - I have a strong tendency to avoid having to learn new things, or more so, new ways, especially when it comes to technological things! YOU MEAN ... I ACTUALLY HAVE TO MAKE SOME KIND OF EFFORT!! hee hee, that I must join the rest of the world, and that the world does not just revolve all around me!!  Humph - this is worse than i thought!

What is a wonderful time-saving device for others, i sure seem to spend hours and hours, and days and days at making it work for me! (whine), but, I am addicted now and slave to the machine! I will persevere (and conquer, or circumvent my backward ways)! Being a narrow, limiting, uncooperative non-conformist may sound like a lot of fun, but it is hard work keeping this up - I peer longingly at the green over the fence and see life running much more merrily and smoothly in the fast lane for all you smart, pliable, adaptable, with-it people!

Go with the flow, don't buck the system, cooperate, comply and prosper! heehee

Thanks, C

Any advice?

Sparklit does have issues at times which are usually very temporary. Seeing as how I have only one hand and didn't type well when I had 2 hands nothing makes me madder than loosing a long post. That's why I have got in the habit of creating my reply in 'Notepad' first and not deleting that text from my PC until I'm sure the reply actually post to the forum. Just an idea to try that has paid off for me a few times. smile

I would suggest using a .txt document program such as 'Notepad' to create your reply. After you transfer your text into the forum 'Reply' area, you can then highlight the intended text and select HTML code 'tool icon' such as color, bold, underline, image, link, etc. using  the toolbar provided on top. If you wan't to add HTML code not provided in the toolbar then select the 'HTML' view tab before doing so. Using 'Notepad' or similar .txt editing software rather than 'MS Word' etc. will eliminate any incompatibility between the forum software coding.

Hi Canuck,

I had a problem yesterday with the Sparklit servers too. I believe there was a software problem on their end. I also lost a long message. I have ran a few test messages through the system and have had no problems today. You mentioned starting a message and then coming back at a later time to finish it. Our software doesn't provide a save function. It will save a draft temporarily, but if you leave the page or log out, you will more than likely lose it. Your system might save it in RAM temporarily, but it isn't a function of the Sparklit software. As far as using a word document and transferring it over, you may see a difference in format that doesn't work as well as desired. I haven't seen an example exactly like you spoke of, but will look into it and see if I can replicate it.
