A biopsy would be more accurate than an MRI. Glad your getting a repeat. Seems like a short amount of time to progress from F2 to cirrhosis. Best of luck and hopefully it will still show F2 or lower!

I checked my biopsy that was taken on 11/5/14 and it had the following below:

focal mild chronic hepatitis (grade II) and mild fibrosis (stage II)

However, the MRI abdomen showed something different because I got a call from the doctor today and he said possible cirrhosis.  The good part is he said that the hep c hasn't returned.  Im schedule to have another liver biopsy next week and will keep everyone updated.

Thank you for posting that video. It once again gives hope to some of us with cirrhosis. 55% Regression back to fibrosis sounds like a great plan. Can you tell us when this video / study was done from the original source. I don't believe any time range is referenced.

Thank you.

Hi Dre.

I agree with Tig and would want an actual fibrosis test done, preferably the same type test that you had done when you tested "stage 0 or 1" for an accurate comparison. I've had multiple MRI's over the past 2 years for HCC monitoring and the final report always mentions my cirrhosis in a wide range of descriptions according to the interpretation of the radiologist making the report. An actual fibrosis test is much more accurate IMO.

I don't personally have experience with liver regeneration after Harvoni since I just finished Harvoni treatment in January but I did experience regressing from decompensated to compensated cirrhosis as a result of eliminating alcohol, adopting a healthy diet, and treating the HCV, which likely will also prove to be eliminated when I'm tested next in April.

Fibrosis regression generally is likely to some extent over time after SVR. Our own Mallani is a good example as you can see in this thread.

Also, here is a video with more information on fibrosis regression that was recently posted here on the forum.

I would want my fibrosis staging redone. Doesn't sound right to be F0 and then achieve SVR and continue to cirrhosis so quickly. How was your initial fibrosis level determined before treatment?

Once SVR is achieved, progression and damage are typically halted. There are several articles (one below from Lori) that do indicate the likelihood of fibrotic regression after SVR. Many people have cirrhosis and live a perfectly normal life. There are safeguards put into place to monitor your liver health once that happens, such as 6 month ultrasounds to make sure HCC doesn't rear it's head. Lifestyle changes are recommended, diet and that sort of thing, but many people live a perfectly normal life with it. It's when it decompensates that trouble begins brewing, ascites (fluid build up) and end stage liver disease complications become problematic. But a compensated cirrhotic, doesn't generally advance to decompensated once SVR has occurred and the opportunity to regress has begun.

I found this www.hepatitiscentral.com/news/liver-care-after-successful-hepatitis-c-treatment/ which says that liver failure is reduced and liver scaring can actually improve after successful treatment. Also says that some don't recover..depends on the stage the liver was when treated. Btw congrats on Harvoni being a success!!!

Hello Everyone,
I got a call from the doctor today that said I havent relapsed with hep c and the Harvoni worked.  I stopped taking Harvoni Septmber 2015.  However, I had an MRI liver scan yesterday and the doctor said it shows some scary and possibly cirrhosis.  I found that strange since I have always been at stage 0 or 1 for the last three years.  I was on chemo for 6 months for colon cancer, but on all of the scans it said liver was normal or fatty liver. My last chemo ended April 2015.  Does the liver repair itself after hep c treatment?  If anyone has had experience, how long did it take your liver to repair.  Just a little concerned with the possible cirrhosis of the liver.
