Welcome aboard

You certainly found the right place for answers to pretty much any question you have. Most protocols have been take and discussed so in particular the search button at the top of the page would be great benefit if you want to find something in particular.

Now that you have started Harvoni, you may want to peek at this thread dedicated to that. Once again welcome and wishing you luck on your 24 weeks

Hi Hangerd,

it must have been really disappointed after such regime to find that the virus was still there with you.

everyone says that Harvoni has a very high success rate and hopefully you will hardly know you are on treatment compared to last year.

i am up to week 14 of Daclinza, Sofisbuvir. I also took Ribaviron for 12 weeks but couldn't keep going on it. I hope it won't effect the outcome.

Good luck,

this forum makes you feel, not only that you are not alone, but also that there are so many people in far worse situations who can be positive, inspire others, support family members and still retain a great sense of humour. It's very humbling.

Syd

Hi and welcome.

Hopefully the 24 weeks of Harvoni will be successful for you.

The Viral Load during treatment is never 0. It may be Undetected but the Undetected level depends on your Lab.

Also, residual virus doesn't only hide-out in the liver. It may be in virtually any tissue, but particularly in lymph and blood monocytes.

Best of luck. Cheers.

With genotype 1 Hep C, I took the Sovaldi/Ribavirin/Pegylated Interferon for 12 weeks this past summer. There was 0 viral load after 4 weeks. 0 after 12 weeks, after I had finished taking the drugs for all 12 weeks. After 9 months, the viral load returned at 1,496,000. I engaged in absolutely no behavior that causes Hep C - no needles at all, no sex at all, no drugs at all; I did not drink any alcohol. My doctors' only answer is that the cirrhosis of the liver was so bad (compensated cirrhosis) that not all of the virus was cleansed out of the dead parts of the liver with just 12 weeks of Sovaldi.

I am now on the Harvoni for 24 weeks, hoping that the longer regimen of the two drugs - Sovaldi and Ledipasvir - will totally clean out the virus from the liver.

Hi Thom and welcome from me as well. Your doctor is likely right about cirrhosis being the reason 12 weeks did not produce a sustained viral response last time. From what I've seen 24 weeks of Harvoni should do the trick for you. I am also cirrhotic and failed Sov / ribavirin Tx in 2014 then re-treated with 24 weeks Harvoni this past year. I won't have a final EOT+12 weeks viral load test until April 7, but all indications right now point toward Harvoni being my silver bullet cure. It can happen for you too, just be sure to help the medicine fight by taking care of your body while on treatment. Stay adequately hydrated with 3-4 liters of good water daily, eat reasonably healthy, get some exercise but don't overdo it, and rest your body well. The side effects of Harvoni were very tolerable for me and will likely be so for you.

So good luck with your 2nd and final battle and keep us up to date on how everything is going for you. smile
