Hi Sue,

Yes, Epclusa has been approved and we have members here that successfully treated with it during the trial phases. Very high rates of success. Here's some discussion we've had here on the forum. There is also an additional component Voxilaprevir being combined with it that has been very effective in trials.

RE: Velpatasvir (Epclusa)? New Gilead Drug

Thank you. I'm reading it all!  Do you know anything about the new Gilead drug Velpatasvir (Epclusa)? I heard it was just released this past month - actually our pharmacist who works with the hepatologist mentioned it. I wonder if it is supposed to be more effective than Harvoni.

Hi Sue,

Sov/Dak is a very effective protocol, but Phil's decompensation will make a difference.  The recommended course has been 12 weeks of Sovaldi/Dak/Riba for CP 1-2, but if Phil is a Child-Pugh C cirrhotic, then 12 weeks doesn't deliver good results imo. If you are going to consider it, I would want 24 weeks of the 3 drug combination for best chances of success. If he is a Class B, then 12 weeks with Riba shows high rates of success, especially since he is treatment naive.  Ribavirin can be rough to put up with, but it's a very effective drug when combined with these new DAA's. If at all possible, considering the complications he has had and the advanced stage of his cirrhosis, I would want 24 weeks of Sovaldi/Daklinza/Ribavirin if I were going to select that protocol.  

Discuss all these options with his doctors. Read these articles I have left for you and learn about it. Look at the rates of success and take notes. Ask questions based on what you see here. Depending on his true level of cirrhosis, his current medication requirements and by all means, the recommendations of his doctors, you will then be able to make an educated decision.

So since my husband's endoscopies for banding of varices have had him on a higher dose omeprazole (for the healing), we have had to postpone Harvoni (at least 3 more weeks), which I'm not comfortable doing. Really want to get going! We also have the option of Daklinza/Sofosbuvir combo but I was feeling like that may not be as effective. So I'm looking for anyone who took that combo with success, especially anyone out there with more advanced cirrhosis. This would be his first time with any Hep C treatment. Also, I know it's similar to Harvoni, but are the side effects the same? Thanks for any input!
