Sorry Tiger,

Somehow I missed that - that you've been on riba as part of your 24 week treatment! Goodness! I just twigged now. Are you understating when you say you "have been moody"??!! Hope it has not been too bad for you! Only about 6 more weeks of it to finish!

I also missed seeing "ct", the first time round - that's very good, nice, that you got that too, in addition to the other tests and imaging. It is reassuring to have these tests done and to own a baseline of data you can always compare back to. Good work.  C.

Hi Tiger.     Looking at your numbers I'm interested in your AFP 42. Have your Doctors looked into that number? You being a F3-F4 they should be looking very closely at a MRI to see how things look inside your liver? You may want to ask about that!   Glad treatment is going fairly well for you, that Abbvie 3-D is great- It cured my wife!!    RC

NOTE: the AFP is just slightly elevated

Thanks for filling in your signature details, Tiger, that`s very helpful information indeed and saves us asking you the same questions over again.

I see you`ve written `EOT since week 4` though ... I think you meant to write`UND since week 4`... and congrats on that!  smile

(EOT = End of Treatment, UND = virus undetected)

I would like to add that it is very good you have been able to get from your doc all of these assessment tests  - U/S, an MRI and a fibroscan - along with all your other bloodworks including the LFT's. All of those things, coupled TOGETHER with how long you have had HCV, and your symptoms, help to shape a fairly accurate "picture" (or medical guess) of where your liver is at. If you were to look at only this one fibroscan test alone, then generally, it is accepted that the higher your Fibroscan F score is (how hard your liver has tested) the higher the "probabilty"is of fibrosis and/or cirrhosis. Your one fibroscan test showed 15.1, which is over the F3 mark and into F4, which holds a higher "probability" of cirrhosis. The exact amount of damage your liver has sustained, is an "approximation, which has to based on and include all tests and factors.

In your favour, is your age, you are only 48, and you are being cured at a relatively young age, compared to many old folk here who have knowingly or unknowingly been packing HCV for 40 years or more!!

Your liver health IS improving dramatically, as we speak, eradication of the offending virus, as indicated by your 4 week Und, the now normalized LFT's you mentioned, and perhaps as shown by the lessening of some of your symptoms, and, knowing that you have not been drinking for a year. The liver is an organ which (as well as kidneys, and some others, BTW), can show an amazing propensity for self-healing when coddled. Even after being quite insulted/damaged.

Yes, we have to do everything within our power to make our livers healthy again, treatment and healthy lifestyle is the very best things you can do, and you are doing it!

With repeated follow-up - repeated bloodworks, U/S's, MRI's, Fibroscans, I hope you will just continue to see improvements! I am betting you will see this!

Your foot/toes thing is interesting to me - what did your doc say about this?? You don't happen to have any other health conditions do you?

Ah, I now see your sig line and other entries! GGT was high, as was AFP, so good to know this, and to know you have quit drinking. Nice dramatic drops in your ALT, and your bilirubin! smile C.

Hello Tiger,

I`m so glad you`ve given up drinking beer, any alcohol at all is very destructive for your liver, and especially when you have cirrhosis.  Staying sober will give your liver the best possible chance to heal, so well done!  That`s something to be very proud of!

Once the Hep C infection is gone, then the healing process will begin, and over time it`s very likely that the condition of your liver will improve.  We`ve seen this happen with many of our members here, along with many other improvements in symptoms and energy levels.

Keep going, and good luck,  you`re well on your way to SVR!!

Hi Dave,

Can you do us a favor, please? Use the red link in my signature and set up your own signature line. It helps to have a reference when replying to your posts. Your treatment start date, type of treatment, genotype,, labs, etc., are very useful. You can see what we have done and provided. If you need assistance or ideas, let me know.

Sounds like you were experiencing some effects from your liver disease. I have no doubt that your liver will be in a much happier place once you achieve these goals. You'll get there!

Hello,

Both your Fibroscan and CAP scores are elevated and in my opinion indicate cirrhosis. With cirrhosis you either have it or you don't. There really is no such thing as mild cirrhosis. You can have compensated cirrhosis, where your liver continues to function but is suffering from higher degrees of fibrosis (F4-scarring). A decompensated liver infers ESLD (End Stage Liver Disease) and requires serious intervention. A patient with compensated cirrhosis may not even know there is a problem, where a decompensated cirrhotic is generally quite ill with possible ascites, encephalopathy and failing health, to name a few.

Cirrhosis is progressive in nature, but treatment to cure HCV will often stop disease (cirrhotic) progression and will set your liver on a path to healing and can even bring about fibrosis regression. You need to concentrate on a healthy diet and work to reduce the strain on your liver as a result of the fatty liver diagnosis.

Fibroscan Scorecard
