geno type 3 how is it treated

I recently finished the VA geno type 3 treatment and am Undetected.

Everyone is undetected at some point on these new treatments, but it's imperative that you finish the entire course to be successful. Good luck...

Hi, name's Dave W...I just recently completed 24 weeks of G-3 treatment.....I also very likely have comp cirrhosis.....I was on 1200 RIBA, as well as Daklensa and Sovaldi .....I tolerated the treatment exceptionally well......Some dry skin and exhaustion, plus memory issues were my only real problems. I am, as of today, 7 days past my EOT with excellent numbers. Get going and drink TONS of water..I worked 10 hour days throughout my treatment. Have faith and be strong. These drugs will get the rest done

Hi, I was diagnosed with genotype 3, and I will be starting treatment soon.

Any info you read on the Internet and elsewhere about gen 3 being hard to treat is OLD NEWS. Everything changed when Daklinza was approved last year. We gen 3's can now expect the same high cure rates as the others.

The one negative is that gen 3 is associated with faster progression and I slightly higher rate of serious outcomes. It is particularly notable for causing steatosis (fatty liver) which can progress to liver scarring. It resolves with treatment, though.

When I was diagnosed, I spent a few days arguing with the universe about how I didn't deserve this. Then I straightened up and started doing my best to obtain treatment asap. I think we all go through that period of shock at first. Then we start to accept things and move on with a plan. There is plenty of room for optimism these days.

Hi there, Natty, welcome from me too!

I`m glad you found us, we all understand what a shock it is at first to find out you have Hep C, but please don`t worry... Gen 3 can be easily treated. From your IP address it looks like you live in the UK? If so, I imagine you`ll offered 12 weeks of daclatasvir (Daklinza) plus sofosbuvir. Also the newer drug combination of sofosbuvir plus velpatasvir (`Epclusa`) is likely to become available in the UK for Gen 3s some time next year, although we don`t know yet which categories of patients this will be prioritised for. This treatment is already available in the U.S. but we`re usually lagging a bit behind over here!

A lot depends on the health of your liver, in other words what your level of fibrosis is, as Canuck has already mentioned. Do you have any more information you can share with us, or do you know if you`re being scheduled for a Fibroscan or biopsy?

Hi Natty, and welcome.

I finished treatment last month, also a G3b, I have or had a quasi-species with a 5% difference from G3a. Geno 3 has a softer shell than 1's which used to be considered the hardest to treat, with 3 being one of the easiest. They consider 3 now to be harder because it needs a longer duration on DDA's apposed to other genotypes as we are more likely to rebound on 8 weeks. Other genotypes can cure on an 8 week duration that would not work for us 3s. We require a 12 week plus depending on our fibroses scale. However, there are newer DDA's entering the market which may reduce treatment time even further. Old treatments used to consist of 6 months for Geno 3 and 2, and 12 + for geno 1 and 4. So when they say we are harder to treat, it is not really if you compare to older treatments. 

Its normal to feel worried, we all were, but treatment for me was very easy! It is not a problem it used to be a few years back where we were required to inject and take pills twice a day with terrible side effects. Now its a couple of pills a day with little to no side effects. I hope that eases your mind a little.

Let us know what you are offered, and your panels/scan results.

Hi Natty,

Welcome here from me too.

Sorry you have just found out you have HCV, but you have arrived for treatment at a very good time, especially for GT3's! The new daa's are proving themselves wonderfully, once you have spent some time on this site you will see how many of us GT3's are now UNDETECTED, and quickly too, on these new drugs, compared to the older drugs.

I "was" a GT3a. I am now UNDETECTED, after receiving a short course of Epclusa (sof/vel) - but I was additionally on another drug, VOX, as well because I was in a trial.

We have others here (in the USA mostly) who are now receiving Epclusa by prescription! It is a "pan" treatment (good for many GT's), you will find GT2's, GT3's and GT4's who have received it. As well you might be offered Daklinza (sof/dac).

What you might get, seems to depend on where you live and what is made available to you.

What country are you in? Do you know how long you have had HCV and what your F-score is? Has your doc suggested any drugs to you?

Let us know a bit more about your circumstances, and ask away for questions. There are a nice bunch of people here who will try to be helpful. smile C.

Welcome to The Forum.

We have a huge contingent of GEN 3 folks here that have been cured. Easily and in short time. No worries one step at a time. There are many options now that are great.

Hi I just found I've got type 3 hep c I've been told its one of the hardest to treat can anyone tell me about treatment options and do they work im worried about this
