Tig,  I saw in the chatbox that you and Jimmy are dealing with roofing repairs and more? It sounds like a lot of displacement for many and yes, it is hard to imagine the devastation.  What happened at your place?

Jimmy?  How about you?

We had wacky storms in the PNW last weekend but not the storm of the century that was predicted.

We've slayed some dragons, but I've never built an ark.  I'll look into some relief efforts.

Thanks for the update.

Hi Tig,

beautiful autumn colours. It's strange seeing the Northern hemisphere photos all autumnal while we are goggling over cherry blossoms and warm gentle winds. I was very jealous of you at the start of your spring, but we all get our time don't we?

Lots of family stuff happening over here -  some good, some not so good at all , either ways I'm feeling a bit fragile at the moment. Where's that wonder cure I thought I had and what else could be the matter with these incredibly complex, increasingly aging bags of water we all hobble around in?

Much love,

Syd

Hi Cheddy,

I saw your request for an update, so here's what I know. We were lucky... many weren't cry The destruction is beyond most people's comprehension when you see it in person. We all see news shows about the damage, but when you witness buildings, cars and lives destroyed from natural disasters in person, it reminds you of our fragility. That's when faith, friends and family are our biggest blessings. They get us through the best and worst of times. The care and concern I received from everyone here is truly appreciated.

There remains a lot to do before the people affected by this storm (and all others) will be able to put it behind them. Some will have problems for an unknown amount of time. We have to do what we can to help our Brothers and Sisters in need. We can donate time, money and prayers to them, they desperately need our help...

Hi All,

Just catching up and want to thank you for your thoughts and concern. Mother Nature shows us regularly that she can be moody. I really prefer her good side, lol! The Fall colors and crisp, cool air were Heavenly smile

So glad you were able to enjoy your time away, Tig, despite such widespread hurricane damage.  Times spent with our families are very precious and especially an event as joyful as a wedding.   Thanks for sharing those beautiful Autumnal photos, those rich colours must have been a joy to see.

And yes, I agree with SF, always good to see you back here!

Hi Syd,

Thanks for the kind words. We're all safe, but have seen shortages of fuel, food, power and water interruptions. At least we have a roof over our head, many don't. Blessings abound when you look beyond the damage.

The wedding allowed us to get away briefly and spend time with those we care most for. It was a beautiful location with Fall colors galore. Being a Florida boy, we are subject to many shades of green and humid heat. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest with all the splendor of 4 seasons, so this was a nice reminder.

Hi Tig,

so glad you and you family are safe. Looking at the severity of the erosion, it seems very lucky that there weren't more casualties. Is your house still on solid ground? Those huge chunks of road just gone like paths in a kids sand pit look absolutely terrifying.

hoping it was a lovely wedding and took your mind of the damage nearer to home for a while.

Love Syd

Geez Tig.  That's some reaaaally high water.  What a challenge.  The Pacific Northwest looks arid by that comparison.  I'm glad you and yours are safe.  Anything we can do?  No, really.

Thanks to all of our friends in the heavy weather zone for checking in.  It's quite a bond we've made, isn't it.

All the best!

Good to hear from you, Tig, so glad to know you and your loved ones are safe!

Thanks for the pics... wow, what dreadful damage, and yes, I`m sure it could have been a lot worse... but certainly bad enough for so many folks.

Thanks for checking in... make sure to keep you chin up, and your head above water.... smile

Thanks Wendy and Jimmy, it's really a sight to behold. This was from the rain alone! It continues to worsen from sheet flow. This is a bridge close to us. Look at the before and after.

The damage here in NC is terrible as well. Severe flooding, power is still out. Here's a few pictures of the road near my daughter's. Trees down everywhere. Could've been worse and we are grateful it wasn't. It has been a busy week for the family with a wedding, road trip and then back to South Florida to clean up another mess. I hope to be back on the forum with bells on next weekend! Thanks to everyone for your help and support. You're all number 1 in my book!

We lost power for 2 days. Whole house generator  kicked in. Next door neighbor  ran a heavy-duty extension cord  across the yard so he could run his fridge. Set up a "juice bar" on our front porch so neighbors could recharge their phones.  Could have been  so much worse.

Hope all my fellow Floridians are ok. I live in Lake Worth I just took the storm shutters down :) I've been through much worse over the years. Thank God we didn't loose power. Last big one we were without power for 2 months that was my biggest fear.

By the time most folks see this it will have changed. But right now, the current off South Florida is almost acting as if there was an approaching tsunami.

The tide is fighting coming to shore.

http://www.earthcam.com/events/extremeweather/

I believe the storm surge will be pretty intense.

Greetings,

Living here on The Gulf Coast, I have been studying Hurricanes for years. This one has some rather frightening possibilities.

From what I am seeing it could hug the coast just offshore, reach southern North Carolina, and then do a loop out to sea and double back and again cross the southern tip of Florida. Cross southern Florida and then back into The Gulf.

This is an incredibly serious storm. God Bless all.

Yes indeed, stay safe any of you in the Florida or surrounding areas.  As far as I`m aware Tig will be away from home long enough to miss the hurricane, and let`s hope everything`s calmed down by the time he`s back.

Glad to hear you`re ok, Wendy, thanks for checking in.. take care!

Thanks all.

I am on the other coast so I will see wind and rain not a direct hit thank God. We are already under a tropical storm watch. Praying for the folks of where this already has been and where its headed, as Syd said, Matthew looks like a nasty dude. I believe Tig is on the road, hoping not on the eastern shore!

If you think of FL as a gun, with the panhandle the handle of the gun and south florida as the nose, I live where the trigger is. (to give you a visual and perspective)

Keep you posted.

love ya,
