This is an easy answer. Yes, the Crestor worked great and you know the rest. Had it not been for my history, they would allow someone with an otherwise healthy liver to have elevated levels to a certain point but when you have a small part of your liver working, different story.

We will watch this one closely. Thank you for for your post and DQ? Nah, Not stopping that :)

Hey, there ya are again buddy!,

So, it's like ... if at first you don't succeed, try, try again?

Pravachol is "on", and Crestor is stuck off the list (due to making your LT values increase), but (ignoring that bit) HOW well an effect DID the Crestor actually have on your chol levels, for all that effort?

Do you have a lipid panel from "before" Crestor and then "after" Crestor to compare? (total chol, ldl/hdl/triglyc, and the ldl to hdl ratio)?

I knew someone who had some sort of "cardiac" type event/scare once. She hadn't been feeling too good, especially on exertion, she was booked for a routine stress-test check, couldn't finish the test, flunked it, again not feeling well, so she had to immediatey shipped over to a cath lab for a lookie-loo, an actual MI wasn't diagnosed. She was out after a day (or was it 2). Her lipid panel happened to be all virtually within normal limits (and historically, had been), but they put her on Crestor anyway, on purpose, they wanted her on it!, maybe for some other reason/"prophylactic"??, I don't know why (seemingly it was not expressly for out of wack lipids), she never really undertsood the rationale either. Subsequently, neither did she have any further big episodes of the same symptoms again.

Nice you got your own treadmill, better than being out in this dicey weather for cycling. I am building my exercise program up slowly (too slow), I'm still on "lassitude" yoga classes. Does a hot tub count as exercise? That would be my favourite! Boy, wish I had one of those at home!

Psst ... I have a theory, DQ could be killing us! wink C.

So today I started pravachol, lowest dosage, 10 mgs with a load of lab reqs so we can watch my liver closely.  I am doing this through my GP under advisement of my liver specialist. I don`t need my cardiologist for this.  It`s pretty simple.

In actual fact, I know these tests so well and since I get the report on the Net the next day, I can choose to continue or stop the drug based on my LFT's.  I do hope this might work in helping cholesterol and being a much less potent drug than Crestor and other such Statins. If this does not  and my LFT`s go up,  we have the next plan already. There is the next drug to try.  Hopefully something will work and be tolerated by my liver.

We are indeed playing my heart against my liver. I sort of think both are kind of important :)  I do notice a bit of nausea today and that is something I typically do not get. I trust it will be transient.

Thank you all for your caring comments. It is a weight off my shoulders to be sure.

Canuck,

My cholesterol values and all did in fact rise although not horrible since the Crestor was clearly working. Those med will keep your levels down while you are on them but once off, they revert back to what they will be anyway. I do have a treadmill and know that if I use it it will help to reduce all that bad stuff. The problem is getting on it and staying on it although I did last night.

My next appointment is in May and I will have an ultrasound just prior to that and then we will discuss another fibroscan since it will have been EOT + 1 year. I see no problem getting it although I will probably have to pay for it. Also not a problem. There are, as you know clinics around that I could even book myself and just have the reports sent to my Dr. and myself. That is an option but I am sure he will have no problem signing a req for one.

My BP is kept in check by a different drug, Coversyl and I will be on it forever or another. It does not seem to be hurting my liver from my recent tests so that is just excellent because I absolutely need that. I never want to see another 185/118 again ... * Thinking I might not actually see it :) <----- Levity but you get what I mean.

Yeah Buddy!! That's what I like to hear when I listen in! Outstanding news, thanks for sharing. So how are you feeling about that? Excited, relieved, exhausted? All the above? We all know some of what you went through and I for one, think we're all thrilled with your recovery. It was tough, but you did it my friend! Now is the time to relax as much as you can, and go after the healthy lifestyle you seek. I have no doubt you will acheive it. Of course we want to be the first to know when you do!!

Well done...

Hey SF,

That is VERY good news, all round, nice normal ranged ALT/AST now! Isn't that the pits, try to take Crestor (to help a body's situ) only to end up making ALT/AST surge upward, which in turn causes angst and concern re: same, kinda counter-productive stress-wse I'd say! In the effort to actively and/or prophylactically improve lipid-related-harm to your bod, aiming to help keep a nice smooth running cardio-vascular machine behave with nice BP's and lipid/cardio performances/functions, we cause sides that can evoke anxiety. I too would have hated to have my LT's triple like that, I too would have had no choice but to fret over any increase. Nice tho (now!, after the fact!) they make a feeble attempt at reaasuring noises that a temporary spike in LT's as a result of being on Crestor, has no detrimental lasting effects, and, as we can see (whew) nicely the prized ALT/AST are obviously waaaay perfect now! Yay! biggrin.

I only hope the venture into Crestorland did help on the lipid front (after all that trouble). So ... what are the before and after lipids/BP's and such?

I know you have been waiting/planning for a repeat fibroscan, but I have forgotten (without searching for it), where you are at with repeat ultrasounds/Cats and fibroscans. When? C.

I suppose this is the best place to post this since I mentioned it in this thread.

I am happy to say I saw my specialist today and both my C and B remain undetected. Those labs were done Dec 15th. My most recent LFT's are ALT 26, AST 21 as of last week so being taken off the Crestor did that trick.

I am happy I am still SVR and B is very nicely still in it's place. Now we can play a bit with some other less potent drugs like Pravochol for instance to see if we can get my cholesterol down a bit while monitoring my LFT's each month. If they elevate, the drug stops. I was assured that the small amount of time my enzymes are elevated when monitoring carefully will not hurt me. Onward and Upward. I will just see my GP about that.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

SF

Here's the condensed version:
Aug 3: Diagnosed with the Hep C virus, genotype 3b.
October 15: Started Sovaldi + Daklinza
November 21: Blood work, virus undetected.

Moving into 2017 with only a couple more weeks of tx to go!

Great idea SF.

I started and completed my 3rd treatment in Sept - Dec 2015 so for me not too much on the liver front this year (which is a good thing)

March 2016 - got the letter from the Doc that I was cured. The same week my son graduated from welding school, moved home and I end my job of 20 years at one business and started another.

Aug/Sept - lots of tests and further testing (colonoscopy, mammogram and colposcopy) After 2nd tests/procedures on 2 out of the 3 I was deemed go to go. Hurricane somewhere in there too.

Oct - twins moved out

Not a bad year all in all. And made lots of new friends here

Just waiting for bro to hang the rooster.

hugz,

wendy

Hiya SF, I do appreciate having had you sharing the 2016 Ride along me and the others out slaying Dragons.

2016

If I were restricted to use a single word I would consider "blur".

I kind of turned my thread http://hepcfriends.activeboard.com/t61269039/test-results-appreciate-input/?page=1&sort=oldestFirst

into a running ledger of events. Started that one a year and two weeks ago as I was on the downward path of a breakthrough. We have all heard of them but for y'all it was a chance to watch it happen. For me it, well...kind of sucked.

By the time December 28th rolled around, I knew what had happened. That was an active day in that thread for me. That was also the day that I declared The Rooster was going on the Tree in 2016. That day some good friends tried to reassure me that the Fat Lady had not yet sang...but I knew better.

Mallani came in the next morning and kindly shot the Horse. (LOL) Dec 29, 2015.

That is how I entered 2016. Totally RibaTrashed, and worried it would dissuade Carolyn from treatment. I was in a blur indeed.

Took a lot of homework to meet with my Doctor and I was sold on Harvoni but he was not in particular due to my taking Omeprazole. We had an intense pow wow to say the least. Labs had come in and declared an F2 and the ALT had come down to 33. Necroinflammat ACT Grade =A0-A1 so I decided I had time to catch my breath and stalk The Dragon some. By th etime Feb 2nd came around I knew my RAV's. Freaking mutations!

Feb 4th The Doc called and had ordered Zepatier with Ribomonster. 16 weeks!

By Feb 5th I was ready to go do battle with my own Doctor now. Zep was not a good match for me and I posted the note I had written in the thread.

Feb 15th The Doctor had been busy. He was still favoring the Zep but clearly doubtful. That is when he finally stated "we could try 24 weeks of Harvoni (I would add RBV.) I sent him a well laid out note (posted in the thread) that was to establish I had done my Homework and wanted him to prescribe Harvoni. He fought that and instead got me approved, Gilead Sofosbuvir/Velpatasvir/GS-9857 Clinical Trial and the ONLY one approved in Houston. He said he pulled some strings. Ok that was Feb 16th. Went down to discuss with the folks and I got shot down due to Omeprazole. no

March 8th I finally made the Doc an offer he can't refuse. He put in for The Harvoni x 24. I immediately bought another watch. wink

March 26th I got a Royal Flush! wink

April 4th and SF you and I were talking seating.

April 6th APPROVED 24 Weeks of Harvoni! wink Less than 4 months since failing the first treatment.

On April 24th SingSong made a prophetic post...

"Jimmy, I was surprised at the 24 wk call unless it has to do with the fact you had prior treatment. If you clear quickly, is there possibility they would take it back to 12 weeks? Just curious."

May 5th week 2 of treatment. ALT and AST have taken a dive! wink

May 17th. I am UND at 4 weeks.

From here everything is standing still but moving quickly if that makes any sense. Treatment going quite well. I early on established myself as the 5:55am guy and compliant to a fault.

June 22nd. I have been rejected for further treatment at 12 weeks. HALF of the 24 weeks approved. Oh man if ya touch me your hand would dissolve! I decide to gather myself and take a positive approach. June 22nd was a wild sort of day.

June 24th. My 38th Anniversary, Carol was in Oklahoma so I took you guys for a ride to "The Other Place".

Well I went on to win an appeal but by then there was 10 days since my last Harvoni so I decided to reject the shipment.

Then Carol was SVR12

Then I was SVR 12

Went on a cruise and tomorrow I hang The Rooster.

Oh geese  SF, I went back to re-read and just noticed you were asking for the Readers Digest Version!

no

SF,

I think you've had it figured correctly, right from the start - there are NO user-friendly drugs for you! I will be glad when some are discontinued.

2016?, in retrospect - (why is it, the best learning always seems to come in retrospect for me!!) at times, 2016 was reeally reeally long, and, on the other hand, it was gone, faster than a blink!

We will wait with you for the PCR's, then we will all feel a little better. smile C.

Hey SF,

Good idea for a thread. I'm sorry that you're having to figure out the enzyme elevations and deal with the concern that instills.

Don't allow your mind to take you into the darkest corner. Crestor and drugs like it are often responsible for serum hepatic enzyme elevations. Wait for those tests to come back before you allow yourself to start thinking relapse of either B or C.

If I know you, you've already started your research. Don't read too much into the dark side before testing, it only serves to depress. Often times those fears turn out to be unfounded. I did find this bit of info on Crestor and thought you'd be interested in it. The PCR will hopefully set your mind at ease.

CRESTOR/Rosuvastatin

I thought it might be a good idea to open a thread for the members to give a summary of 2016 and what happened during this past year now that we approach the end of it.   Since I started this, I will go first.

Feb 9th, start of 12 weeks on Harvoni with starting numbers of ALT 187, AST 114, VL 2.3 M

May 2nd, End of treatment ALT 35/ AST/25  C/B UND

Oct 18 = EOT +24, ALT 27. AST 20  ** Declaring SVR   C UND, B not tested.

During my TX my blood pressure was up and it's possible it was the Harvoni although not documented yet but will be

discussed at the next large meeting of Specialists to see what other support there might be.

Sept. 25, Hypertensive crisis with BP 185/118 that caused a Heart attack. I started taking all sorts of meds to deal with this, Crestor being one of them. I have been on these meds for 11weeks approx.

Dec 12, ALT 92 AST 60, three times what they were 8 weeks ago

I got my results yesterday on the computer and took them to my specialist and GP today as I did not want to wait until they got it. Tomorrow I will have two tests HVC RNA and HBV DNA viral load to see if I had a relapse of C or my B has reared it's ugly head. Today will be my last day on Crestor even though there are a few others I am taking and now the wait begins again. I hope elevations are the drugs that can be adjusted or stopped. It's playing one disease against the other but please let it be that  Jan 18th I will see my specialist and find out where I stand and know what 2017 will bring.

Well that's me now lets hear your year and whether you were treated, waiting or being treated for anything related to this, please let us know. It would be great to have it all compiled in one place. Let everybody have a wonderful holiday season and let 2017 be the best year ever for everyone.

SF

** Like the Wizard said in the Wizzard of OZ, ignore that man behind the curtain, well please ignore my last line in my signature ... for now.
