Sad that this is even a consideration. Of course we know this is just day dreaming, but the truth rings clear. There are so many issues present and they all affect a potential resolution. Why there isn't more meaningful discussion on patent rights and infringments, is beyond me. Who ignored the use of NIH resources in the development of HCV DAA's? Someone dropped the ball on that. There has to be a balance determined when profits outweigh health. Lets back up and consider the moral and ethical side of the equation.

The U.S. government could cure most Americans suffering from hepatitis C infections if it simply bought drug maker Gilead Sciences on the stock market rather than purchasing its products in the drug market.
