The story continues and I'm encouraged to see these valued associations speaking out on this report. You may be asked to register on Healio's website, and I recommend it if they do.

"Members of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases have issued a strongly worded rebuke of a recent Cochrane review of drugs for the treatment of hepatitis C virus infection."

Loop... the line that jumped out at me was

"Due to several limitations, we assessed the quality of the evidence in this review as very low quality."

"It just goes to show that there is always something!"

Roseanne Rosannadanna

But seriously, if DAA drugs are eradicating the HCV from the bloodstream, it follows that HCV would re-appear in screenings if it weren't Also eradicated in tissue/bone/CNS etc.

There are no test results showing evidence of HCV in specimens taken from elsewhere in the subjects either. It sounds a lot like someone in the Health Insurance Underwriting business making a case to not cover treatment....the entity who commissioned the study is often a clue as to what they want the findings to be.

Hey loveys,

Sorry, its summer, and you know, I've been busy with enjoying! ;)

Things are going great. I'd make an OK spit roast at the moment as I've gained some extra lard quitting smoking, I'm busy training to burn it off.

I've no physical complaints, I stopped this week eating meat and fish as I'm not enjoying it - I watched too many Disney films! ;)

That was one weird report wasn't it, I had the feeling it was to discredit use and price for Governments?

Anyway, how are you all? :D

A special hug for Canuck for missing me! :P

Hi Lisa!!

I hope you are doing well. Nice to hear from some one from way back when. @Tig you know I was on the treatment with Incivek. It was brutal but in May I had my regular blood test from my primary and requested alt/ast. They came back ast 13 alt 9. It was worth it.

Hi Lisa,

Good to hear from you! Hope things are going well. smilesmile

That report was a bit hard to follow. It referenced a lot of possibilities and assumptions, but didn't really come to any conclusions, other than SVR came more often. The one thing I've come to realize is that regardless of the treatment, it's almost always a new treatment, the  various DAA's. We all were somewhat of a guinea pig at some stage in the R&D program. They're already working on new compounds and releasing newer DAA's as we speak. I don't know how it ever slows down. There is less and less tweaking of existing strategies and new drugs instead. It's a race for the gold medal.

Overall I think these treatments are far easier than those during the Interferon days. People should enter the name INCIVEK into the search function and read some of those stories. Those patients have my never ending respect. Brutal... Still we have to strive for better and better options and treatments. They have to be easier to obtain and affordable. Nobody is saying give it away for free, just make it affordable. Free would be nice but that may take some time to come about globally! Global access to quality generics should be available without having to jump through hoops. There's a lot that can be done. I think the decision to treat is a good one. If we don't stop it, the damage progresses and in some, it progresses rapidly.

Greetings Loop.

Seems like a lot of words, that question the validity of the words. Kind of ends with;

"First, all trials and outcome results were at high risk of bias, which means that our results presumably overestimate the beneficial effects of DAAs and underestimate any potential harmful effects"

Kind of a WTF kind of Study that rests on presumptions.

Hi People,

Has anyone else read the new reports on the Cochrane report? I'm not sure what to think:
