Hello Iris!

First, it's always nice to hear from you here on the forum! There aren't too many of us still active, which is unfortunate, but understandable. We have come a long way since the day we started the battle against our Dragon decades ago. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. What I would like to point out is that we had hope, and that hope got us through it together. Having each other to lean on and share grief, as well as success with, was what got us through. It's no different now. All of these current world affairs, and illnesses, while a pain in the butt, aren't insurmountable. We have to approach them like we did before, with hope, courage and determination. I think we are probably one group that understands what time in the trenches is all about. Nothing happens overnight in our world of medicine, but we're seeing them chip away at it, just like we did with our former treatment regimens. There are lots of trials out there for Covid-19, and its ever-changing variants will be with us for some time to come. Try to not let it overwhelm you, it sounds like you've got enough on your plate right now.

I'm sorry you feel so isolated with this, along with caring for your Mom, it must seem like you're constantly climbing a mountain. Remember the old saying "up hill to school, both ways, in the snow"?  I believe you're experiencing that, just differently. Before you know it, you'll be sledding into home! You're doing a wonderful thing for your Mom, not many people are as committed to helping others. Try to balance, with the stress, with the realization of how much GOOD you're doing.

I've been feeling better since my bout of the C-19. It did however take a toll on my lungs. Certainly my history of pneumonia didn't help matters much. The doctors call it some sort of reactionary asthma. Basically damage caused by the virus. I'm still taking an inhaled steroid daily, as well as a rescue inhaler for those moments when the "air gets thin", lol! All part of growing old I guess, but that doesn't make it any more tolerable. As long as I can live normally, for most purposes, I'm good to go. Besides, there isn't much one can do about it!

I got the original C-19 vaccine, and the booster in the later part of 2021. The protection didn't work too well for me, because I got it anyway over the Christmas holiday. We all got it, and we were all vaxxed. I haven't pursued any additional boosters since then. Hopefully the new one will perform as originally promised. They have a lot of convincing to do before I roll up my sleeve again. I haven't liked all the revelations and stories about what the original forms might have caused. We're all sitting on the edge of our seat, hoping they figure out some miracle, but as we know, viruses mutate, so everything changes. Try to not let the cloud of fear, or doubt surround you now. We have too much experience with those kinds of scenarios, and staying positive is all we have right now.

I want to leave you with a link to some information on Covid, and it's impact on liver health. There's also a report on Veklury (Remdesivir), and its use in fighting C-19 in liver patients. Hopefully it will provide you with some clarity on what's happening in that arena of care.

I've just been so super careful. But to my detriment I suppose because I won't go to large events really, did go to Disneyland and The Ren Faire a couple times, but I hesitate to go an intimate event like a club with music, but I did just get back from a local craft show, (I wore a mask at the indoor part)... most of it was outside. I kinda of miss playing pool, but a bar...eeek even in the best of times they were a bit sketchy, cleanliness wise. I carry a spray bottle of alcohol with me everywhere I go...sheeze just add another layer to the obsessive-compulsive behavior. hmm

I've been pretty isolated taking care of mom. I try to do things I like and to keep busy too, but the Corona 19 sent me into a whole new level of Paranoia and anxiety, like complex ptsd wasn't enough. hmm

As I recall some of the first attempts at nixing this newest viral monster were drugs that had been in some of the trial cocktails for the Hep C cure? It all just kind of freaks me out, viruses... there with you for freaking life. And we have already had the Mother of them all, I want to remain a Corona Virgin!!! I am scared to death to catch it, and I'm scared that it will F with the "dormant" C dragon, or I will get long covid, how you feeling now by the way, Tig??...is it still giving you asthma?  gosh I do ramble on. But seriously it is so depressing and with the state of the US and everybody so divided I'm like what am I doing here. confuseThe conspiracy **** is making me suicidal because I don't see it ever getting better. After Lahaina burned (and I have 2 friends in that town, thankfully accounted for) the stuff that is flying around now is imbecilic, hateful and dangerous. And It doesn't stop there Every one is going nucking futs with no care or concern for their fellow human. Last month here at mom's we got some racial hate propaganda delivered by rocks in a baggie with message enclosed. I really thought we could get beyond that and just see that we are people in the spectrum of life, like a beautiful flower that comes in many different shades and colors.cry 

When will we be normal again?

I ended up with the Omicron variant, after being double vaxxed. There wasn’t much enjoyment during the lengthy infection. I remember the sore throat, difficulty breathing, loss of smell that lasted a long time. I had previous bouts of pneumonia, and fully expected to get it again during my Covid experience. I continued to have a hard time breathing after I was over it, so I made another visit to a pulmonologist. I was diagnosed with a form of asthma. He said it was a result of damage from the virus. Call it long Covid. Now I’m living with a daily inhaled steroid, and a rescue inhaler. It sucks, but you do what you have to do.

My doctors offices, and the hospitals here finally dropped their mask mandates. There are still a lot of people that mask. Now they’re concerned about RSV, and working on a new vax for that. If I catch that, I think my lungs will decide to check out, lol! Stay well my friends…

I didn't get the jab either, neither did my hubby . We single mask everywhere and I also notice ppl give me a wide berth..hahaha

I got the omocrom version In january 2021 around the same time as Tig. It was the worse sore throat ever but nothing much else. I still have a very dry mouth since then but not painful like it was for many months after.

You wanna know what's really strange? I deliver CT scanners and MRI machines to hospitals, and nobody wears a mask anymore. They are available if you so choose.

Yea, so far I guess it's been that one case. Anyway the mRNA technology has the potential to cure cancers. That's pretty huge. This research  began in the 1960's so they been at it some time, And even though folks have gotten ill, for all intents prove that it works in lessening the severity and likely saved countless folks. In contrast, the drugs to cure hep C were in research for a far shorter time.

I'm still a covid virgin and like to stay that way. I continue to be very cautious though, no big crowds though I went to Ren fair a couple, times and Disneyland right after they re opened at 25 % capacity!.... it was bliss and probably the last time I will ever go. Mask at the store and other places still even though I may be the only one, people give me a wide birth, probably guessing I have it and that's why I'm the only one in the store with a mask! LoL hand sanitizer with me always and shoes are cleaned or they stay outside. You could say I'm a bit over the top hmm

I just started searching for hep c reactivation after the vax. A lot of it seems to point to this one case, but I'm sure there's more. I got the original recipe covid at the very beginning. My doctor told  me it was bronchitis, but it took 3 Z packs to get it out of my lungs. I was ok after that but a lot of people I know that got the jab, still got sick. So I didn't trust it and never bothered with it.

Thanks, Shemp. This is the first report that I’m aware of, and is certainly worthy of further research.   We need to know about this stuff, but sadly it isn’t widely disseminated. Let’s hope our doctors will keep us in mind. All they have to do is search their database for HCV patients, and send out a notice for a needed follow up. If only it was up to me, lol!

What’s the source of that abstract? I want to read more on that. I took two Pfizer jabs, and still contracted Covid, in spite of the vax. Nasty long term effects from Covid. My lungs got hit hard.

Abstract

Purpose: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection impacted morbidity and mortality during the pandemic of 2020-2021. A number of anti-COVID-19 vaccines have been developed with an unprecedented speed. While these vaccines have good efficacy and are safe, the experience with their use is limited and hence the knowledge of rare side effects. Identifying rare complications is important for future safe use of these vaccines.

Materials and methods: Here, we report a case of a 82-year old patient with dementia who was admitted to a nursing home in the Netherlands. After vaccination with COVID-19 vaccination, physical examinations and lab tests were performed.

Results: She had a reactivation of hepatitis C infection after vaccination with the mRNA-based Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. This reactivation manifested with jaundice, loss of consciousness, hepatic coma and death.

Conclusion: This reactivation of hepatitis C virus after vaccination with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID19 vaccine suggests a need for critical consideration of individuals with prior HCV infection and considered for COVID-19 vaccination.

Hey Iris,

That‘s concerning information. I received two Pfizer vaccines, so you gained my instant attention! I’ll look for any information, too. What else will we discover going forward? I just had my blood work done, and all was within normal limits. I’m well past the need for another PCR, so I watch the liver enzymes (ALT/AST) and so far, so good.

In all my surfing around the web, seems I ran into an article about the Pfizer covid vax having some cured cases of hep C reactivating. Is this true? I right now cannot re-find the article but will bring it here if I do find it. This is frightening, reactivation has always been my biggest fear,  like I want to believe it's gone for good, but this nasty bugger in my brain always reserves doubt.
