Thank you Moocow.

I agree that diet is very important. At least leading up to treatment time. I have made some major changes (mainlly because of intestinal problems that are caused by a not so healthy diet.)

My diet changes include some of the following:

I now eat brown rice instead of white. I had never eaten brown rice before. It has a different texture (that I like) and a light nutty taste.

I made some whole wheat bread dough and divided it up into mini loaves covered w/ wax paper then Saran Wrap because; I live alone. If I buy a loaf of bread half gets wasted plus I don't care for store bought whole Wheat. Fresh, it's yummy (especially when still warm). I cook a new one a couple times a week.

I cook most of my meats (which is mainlly chicken and fish) in a non-stick pan lightly coated w/ olive oil. I do not like olives and didn't like the smell of cooking olive oil at
1st but it is the taste is good.

I eat a bowl of total Raisin Bran every morning.

I eat a lowfat yogurt daily.

I drink juice and water instead of soft drinks. I was drinking at least 3 Cokes a day. If I bought a 2 liter; I would drink a whole one in a day. I now limit myself to 1 softdrink a day and I plan to quitting completelly.

I have been doing this for 2 weeks now. In that short period; I feel better than I feel better than I have in years.

These changes were for better digestional health but I looked up the nutritional value to the new (and old) things that I am now consuming and the benifits are great in many areas for all around health.

Ginger, Honey, Cinnimon, fiber, whole grains, juice, onion, garlic, whole wheat Pasta, etc.

I am having fun with it also; trying new foods and recipes.

I'm still like most fresh vegetables. I wish I did like them more. I sometimes drink V8 Fusion and I take a daily vitamin suppliment.

Anna,

I realize that right now, you're doing quite a bit of research in anticipation of the side effects of treatment will be- and I have to respond to this with not only an opinion, but also some "proven" facts that might increase your chances for clearance.

Hair loss is a temporary thing- most people lose some hair, but unlike cancer chemotherapy drugs, most do not go "bald". Also, your hair will grow back, thicker and fuller than before.
Eating a well balanced diet during treatment is far more important than fighting some hair loss, truly. And, it will be difficult enough to eat and maintain a balanced diet during the treatment phase.

Also, it is highly advised NOT to use anything chemical on your scalp or hair (other than shampoos/conditioners), such as Rogaine, strong dandruff shampoos, hair dyes, getting permanents or body waves- you might even want to arrange for a good cut before you start treatment- if anything, to lift your mood a bit.

When you start treatment, your body is going to react to all kinds of things that you either ingest or apply- this is why warm soothing bathes in oatmeal, using Eucerin or other dry skin creams, etc; if anything, drier skin will be one of the side effects that will annoy you the most, the hair loss might be secondary or not as bad as you anticipate smile.gif

These articles could give you some guidance as far as increasing your chances for SVR and on top of it, adding Vitamin D as a supplement could not hurt you if you look at the dosage suggestions (you don't want to take too much), given age is a factor (yes, especially women lose Vitamin D levels as we age).

Hepatitis C and Vitamin D Deficiency

And this article, posted just this month:

Could Vitamin D be the Missing Ingredient in HCV Therapy?

The results from a small study conducted in Israel is very interesting.

I have been researching the nutritional values of foods (trying to get as healthy as possible).

One thing that keeps popping up is there is new research showing that Onion juice applied to the scalp promotes hair growth.

I know that interfeuron can cause some hair loss so this could be some great news for some slayers.

The following is a link but there are many sites about this on the web.
