Hi Chemissse

Thanks for the good luck wishes and bakatcha for when Kevin starts!

Chicken soup is sooooo bland fot a person feeling off and just eating because they have to and with lots of veges is definitely very nutritious even in small doses. But Greg just likes it too biggrin. I asked him what he would like if he's not in the mood for food and chicken soup was it.

Is that the coliseum you are standing in front of in your picture??

It looks like Greg is pretty lucky to have such solid support.  Chicken soup?  You are awesome!  (I should be taking notes for when Kevin starts treatment).

I just read that people with metabolic sydrome tend to not respond as well with the treatment so perhaps the metabolic jump start is for that reason.

Best of luck!

Hi Catie,

The RIBA can take a while. But the interferon hit me hard within the first 5 hours. So it sounds like he is doing well......yahoo !

Hi again James

Its like waiting for a ballon to pop LOL

We are still waiting for any side effects ... so far nothing! Very odd and wonderful. Keeping in mind your advice that it can take a couple of week and be cumulative but so far so good thank goodness smile

Hi,

You guys will be fine.  You've got a great attitude and are well positioned for success.  I have never talked to anyone who thought treatment was going to be harder than it actually is.  People usually have a bit easier time.  If it's a rough first shot, don't worry they vary.  Some weeks I really didn't feel to bad at all.

The riba takes a bit to show side effects maybe a week or two.

Best wishes,

James

Greg is pretty scared about starting his interferon this evening ... Im scared for him, I love nim, Im proud of him, Im here for him

Unexpectedly and wonderfully the ribavirin has had little to no effect that he is aware of - a slight breathlessness is all hes mentioned

He told his top boss what his treatment is for and what possible side effects there may be that would effect his work - very positively received so Im hoping she is an honourable person ... he said his felt a profound sense of relief after telling her

Glad Im a realist, Im aiming for being supportive in every way I can, but Im also not going to beat myself up if I falter occasionally

Ive made a HUGE amount of chicken soup and frozen it in person sized amounts, full of vegetables and organic chicken, all fat removed, very nutritious ... and bland LOL, Greg loves chicken soup when hes ill and said it would be ideal if hes feeling nauseous, he wants to eat well and his new awareness of how to is fantastic and helped him kick start his metabolism before starting treatment by losing 2.5 kg in 10 days, and not just water either let me tell you. That was an interesting bit of advice actually, that an active, kick started and raised metabolism at the commencement of treatment is beneficial to the effectiveness of the treatment ... wonder why?

If preparedness helps ... we have medications ready to help with any strongly unpleasant side effects, a cofy bed in the spare room, chewing gum for the dry mouth and tooth brush etc at work, (he has good teeth and wants to keep them that way), chicken soup of course, THE BEST GP on the planet, a fabulous Clinic Nurse, total family support and love, an easily accessible local support group, the amazing and inspiring people on this Forum, and each other

Everything else will be a surprise
