So sorry to hear about your sad loss, Mariano. I'm sure he would be extremely proud to know that you are promoting Hep C Awareness and focusing on all the positives, despite going through such heartache.

It's great that you raised money for the Hep C Trust at Robbie's send off as they do so much good work.

Mariano, my heat goes out to you and I`m so very sorry to hear about the sad loss of your partner Robbie.  Thirty years is a very long time to share your life with someone you love, and you are bound to miss him terribly still.  I also lost my husband through Hep C after spending 28 years together, almost 5 years ago now, and I know how heartbreaking it is.

It must have been a comfort to you that the end came peacefully and without pain, and how wonderful that you managed to raise money for the Hep C Trust, a very good cause.

Thank-you for sharing this with us, you`re very brave, and your buddhism must be a great comfort and help to you.

All my very best wishes go out to you, stay strong and hold on to those good memories of times you shared together.

Hi its been a year since i last posted.  Sorry folks.  Unfortunately my partner Robbie died a month after my last post.  He got a staph infection in his finger which after a short stay in intensive care shut down all his internal organs. He was not in pain, he was sedated and passed away peacefully.   Robbie had a great 'send off' and we managed to raise quite a bit of money for the hep c trust which he would have been so happy about. 

 

He gave treatment his best shot but unfortunately he ws one of the unlucky ones that didnt respond.  I miss him terribly.. we were together through thick and thin for nearly 30 years.  He supported me through my treatment and was as chuffed as i was when i got the all clear.....  The legacy that he has left is that i try to make as many people aware of the dangers of contracting hep c and encourage those i know with it to give treatment a go.

I practice buddhism and every day chant for the health of those suffering with this terrible disease.  Keep going people.. positive vibes are the way forward.

Hi Mariano,  I`m so sorry to read about your problems.  I agree with the prune juice and lots of water as a good remedy for the constipation.

As for cheering him up, does he enjoy listening to any sort of music?  Or `listening books`?  Would you consider getting a pet?  (you may already have one, or more). I don`t have grandchildren but my cat lifts my spirits every day.

Hi Mariano,

I know a woman in your position from the medhelp.org hep c forum named Evangeline she is very nice and may be a good person to talk to. All you have to do is join and search for her on the Hep C forum of medhelp for her.

ahh good thinking TY - and brown rice is another that constipation prone friend of mine swears by - and of course water - lots and lots of water ...

Hi mariano,

    I'm sorry to hear about all the problems that you and your partner are facing.  I agree with Cate that children can be a positive boost when someone is feeling down.  There are some new drugs on the near horizon that may lead to more positive results in fighting the Hep C virus.  Perhaps he can ask the doc about them?  Then again maybe you already have.

     Has he tried prune juice for his constipation problem?  It sounds a bit silly when he has no doubt tried some of the best drugs on the market, but it worked for me when nothing else would.  Just make sure he starts with a small glassful.  I started with a large glass because I didn't think anything so simple could possibly work and then I wished I'd taken about half as much, lol.

Hi Mariano

all I can offer is compassion to you both - sounds like it's been a very long and difficult time for you both and I hope - if nothing else - that much desired poo eventuates asap - and no I'm not laughing and I understand just how frustrating this situation is

with regards to 'bucking up' - well Greg's grandchild always brings a soppy look to his face no matter what - and in fact our Nurse Roz did say right at the start that spending time with young children is one of the most uplifting things you can do - obviously in managabel time slots but isn't that what all g'parents say? - "love them to bits but it's great to be able to give them back"

if his depression is clinical there are of course meds to help - Greg and I also have a GP we trust implicitly and who we can talk to about any and everything - I've often seen Greg very reassured just after a short conversation about things that are worrying him ...

do look afer yourself as well Mariano - so SO important but I expect you know that smile

thinking of you both and hoping you have or can find the resources you need just around the corner

hi there.

well here i am again....joined in 2009 cos i was just gonna start treatment.....  after six months of not very niceness I got the not detectable.... and then the all clear... great you are probably thinking... Well yes I was so made up and still am..... but....... Im living with a lovely man who is a non responder with Cirrohcis (spell?) Varicies, Enlarged spleen and now getting steadily weaker and more dispondent. He has regular visits to hospital (one due next week)' At the  moment he is in bed pretty ill with not being able to have a poo despite having all the meds under the sun to help him 'go'. He is getting very depressed as he recons his quality of life is zilch.  Anyone been in my situation ... i need advice to buck him up.  He is so down. I just want to make him feel more positive no
