Hi,

I don't know of any holistic approaches to clear the virus either, I do know I did not respond before to the peg-interferon treatment and it was hell. The Chinese have been treating hepititis for centuries. I tried dandalion root extract, but it upset my stomach. Will try the milk thistle next. There is something to be said for co-existing with this... I do feel good now though, so as I told Frank, I'm inclined to wait a while. Lets see what's next... Thank you for your thoughts.

Eric

Hi Ron,
Thanks for your welcome and speedy reply! Not sure of my current VL. I just had an ultrasound last week and a follow up yesterday. My doc says there is no appearance of any mass forming anywhere. I have lots of blood work results from as far back as Apr 2009, but don't know what most of it means. My former GF is a med Dr. and says nothing looks alarming. I'm to have a lot more bloodwork this week- ANA, CBC, Iron, Metobolic Comp. PTT, and VL RNA, plus re-tested for genotype. I'm going to have the tests done, but frankly am very frightened by my past experience with these drugs and am reluctant to get on the program.
I have been following a strict exercise and yoga pgm. for 3 years, have completely eliminated drugs (except ingestible med canibis for insomnia) caffeine, most sugar (except in some fruits and what I cannot avoid in commercial things), I eat almost ALL organic foods, very little to no meat, twice daily meditation, acupuncture weekly for liver function, immune system balance and basic equilibrium. I have never felt better in my life! I have very little in the way of symptoms regarding my 25+year condition (a slight twinge, but no pain in my liver area now and then) and my energy level is through the roof! I know because I teach middle school and I have more energy than any other teacher and most of the students too! Not just my students, but ALL of them. I teach an after-school yoga class and I leave these kids in the dust! They may have a bit more flexibility, but kids these days just don't get enough exercise. Not to digress, but it is an important factor in my decision. I FEEL GREAT! Why mess with that? I don't want to disregard the benifits of western medicine and neither do my holistic practitioners, they even have acupuncture techniques for helping with side effects of HCV drugs. I just feel for the first time, I'm on a solid path to recovery and do not feel my emotions and body can handle another go-round with the radical side effects and the potential of non-response. Sorry for the long reply, but detail is important to our work, right?
thanks again - Eric

Hello,

I am on the 3 drug combo, and it is no picnic, but I'm managing. I work 3-4 days a week. I may be wrong, but I am not aware of any holistic approach that has been shown to clear this virus, thought there are supplements, like Milk Thistle, that do provide some liver support. You would need to know how your liver is doing, etc. And if you're doing OK, then why not continue on with your approach and see how you feel in the Fall? Unless you have some major liver damage, waiting a few months is probably not going to hurt you, just my opinion of course. There's also even newer treatments in the pipeline now, and while it may be a couple of years until they are tested and approved, there may one day be a drug combo that doesn't include the SOC drugs.

Hi eh, welcome to the forum.

I wondering if you can tell me what results your getting with the holistic approach? Do you know what your VL is and how it is responding to this approach?

Also, Ana (G1) here in the forum just got a UND in 2 weeks and will only be on tx for 16 weeks. I'm a G1 and got a 4 week UND without the new drugs.

Thanks for posting, Ron.

I am hep c genotype 1a with chirrosis. 55 Y.O. male and a non responder to peg-interferon/ribavarin treatment in 2002. I also had terrible side effects. The newest coctail is out now and my Dr. is excited, but she doesn't have to tolerate the drug. I am now following holistic treatments in San Francisco at Quan Yin - the leaders in CM for HIV and HepC (yoga, acupuncture, herbs, diet, exercise, no drugs, caffine sugar, etc). I am looking for any feedback regarding the new drugs vs. holistic approaches. Any thoughts? I have a huge summer schedule ahead that will be scrapped if I do the treatment and I cannot afford to cut back my workload.
