Yes David, I agree with James, you`ll soon lose that irritable-with-the-world feeling and be back to your usual gracious self, riba rage does go!  I had to do a bit of apologising, and re-cement some relationships once I`d started recovering, you`ll be fine I`m sure!

Take care, and give yourself some time.  smile

All the best, Jill xx

Dave your head will come back in no time.  It seems a lot easier for me to not worry about the minutuia in life post tx.  I hope this is the case with you as well.

Hi, James-

Thank you very much for the well wishes! I hope you continue to improve until you feel great every day . . . . Living in that beautiful ski country, well, I'd probably wake up refreshed, once I got about a pot of coffee down!

I know everyone is different . . . I feel like I'll probably end up feeling good physically, but I'm worried about about getting my brain back and not being an agitated jerk to my wife, kids, and 90% of the town. I think I embarassed myself this morning at a four-way stop sign, got so agitated at some fool who wouldn't go when his turn came, that the whole intersection was staring at me like I'd lost my mind. . . . and I probably had!

Greg! Good to see you on here, thanks for your message and words of encouragement. The same to you, many times over. I hope that if you decide to treat again, that the tx will be gentler and more effective than it is now. I sure hope to read about it!

Best Regards,

David

Hi, James:

Thanks for your message.

I read over that info, thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, they don't differentiate between people that were on 24 week tx versus 48 wk. They also don't indicate whether the people were taking pegalated interferon, or the older-style tx, etc. Pegintron was approved for Hep C in the USA in 2001, but it looks like this survey was done in 2006, and in the UK or somewhere else that uses similar spelling.

Hard to tell how much of it will be relevant to me; I guess I'll know in the weeks and months ahead. The half-life of Ribavirin is 120-170 hours, depending on the person. That in itself tells you a lot about the differences in people and how they excrete the medicine.

FWIW, another doctor told me today that it would be 5 weeks before I could be allowed to return to my job; that's the time they predict that 90% of the Ribavirin is gone from the system of most metabolizers.

Regards,

David

PS, who the hell ever feels "refreshed" in the morning?   bleh

Hmmm 38% of the 500 people that did the HCV trust survey would disagree with your Doc. I'm post tx nine months and would also disagree with him. I think not feeling refreshed in the morning is the worst part of it, that and the joint pain. Good luck to you Capt

Well, I had my 24 Week visit today, so here I am!
Geez, hard to believe I'm done, but so far, it sure looks like it. Tonight would usually be my shot night.

I guess I'm not officially done until my labs com back, and then the 6 month check, but I did the triple therapy (Telaprevir) and the doc said that I have a 94% chance of SVR, based on being UND at week 4 and 8. He also said that if you are UND at week 24, then it's a 98% chance of SVR.

My HepC doc is a clinical researcher, has been treating Hep C patients for 20 years. He said that most of his patients seem to feel about 50% better after 30 days, with 90% of the side effects gone at 90 days, and the remaining 10% of sides clear more gradually, but generally do resolve within 6 months.

I'm looking forward to getting back to normal. I can't believe I'm done. It semed like such a long path 6 months ago. Thanks to all of you for sharing our experiences, and helping with mine.

Regards,

David

Hello and congrats from me too! smile  Your experience of tx sounds pretty familiar.  I finished tx almost 8 mnths ago now, and I also found that it took me a few months to really say that I`d got over the sx of tx.  It does vary a lot though and some people start to feel better quite quickly.  I do remember though that the first improvement was that my head felt clearer, and I felt that within a week or so after the end of tx.

It`s best to allow yourself some time to recover - you`ve been taking some heavy duty meds and they do take a toll on our bodies.  All the best of luck with your studies!

Love from Jill xxx

No problem.  That's what the forum is here for. smile  Hopefully you will feel more motivated as you feel some of the sides going.

Best wishes.

Hi there TDM and congrats on finishing tx!!  Post-tx recovery seems to vary between individuals but you should start to notice some improvements within the first couple of weeks.  For me personally, it took a few months for many of the changes but it is reassuring when you suddenly realise that you no longer have 'x' side, or symptom.

I think it is important not to push yourself too much post-tx.  We are often expected to feel better as soon as we finish and it just does not work like that.  I hope you have a speedy recovery and wish you all the best with your results.

Hugs

Heather xxx

Hello Everyone,

So I'm a few days out from my last dose of medication, been little over a week since the last shot. I was treated for type 3 for 6 months with Interferon and Ribavirin, I feel like I handled the treatment very well physically, I went from a viral count of 10mil down to 43 after the first month and was undetectable for the rest of the 6 months of treatment. Physically I was tired a lot, the first injection gave me flu symptoms but was alright the rest of the times, I noticed that I was irritable and depressed a lot of the time and spent most of the 6 months relaxing, I tried to plan the Tx for the summer while out of school, it wasn't until school started and I had all the stress that comes with it to deal with when I realized how much the treatment affected me, I was and still am unable to focus on much of my work having to do just a few assignments in a day makes me extremely irritated the depression seems worse and I just want to feel normal again and get back to doing well in my studies. How long have people here generally taken before they started functioning more normal? Does it take a few weeks or months?
