smile I wish I could get to 58K. I will tell you what the Mayo tells me. They do not care much about platelet counts anymore. They say that it seems that for most of us the platelets get to where they need to be when they are needed. I live with platelets in the 20K range and have been as low as 18k. If I were at 58 I could qualify for treatment on my new liver becasue it is under attack by the Hep C. Personally I would not worry until you get to the 20's, even though some reading this would go nuts. Yet what I am telling you is relitively new. They treated me with interferon at 48 K and did not stop until it was 18 K. I have never had a bleeding problem so take it for what it is worth but I wish I had your count.

They reduced my interferon when platelets got below 50.  That seems to be the magic number.  Low platelets are generally manageable.  If you experience some blood in your gums and nose these too are usually ok.

They sit up and take notice when you vomit blood or have quite a bit of blood in stools so be aware of these possible sx too.  Platelets are responsible for blood clotting, as I'm sure you know, so be careful with knives, razors, and other sharp things as your platelets get low.  You should be having weekly labs and I recommend getting the results yourself b/c doc's offices can have delays in reading or responding to blood changes which can exacerbate the situation.
