Thanks for all the reponses.  I have an appointment today so I will see what is up.  I was never informed of alternative txs and my primary Dr is usually really good about suggesting things along those lines.  Well I will keep everyone posted and it is so good to have someplace to go and get advice and feedback on things.

Hi Mary, I wonder if you can get the relatively new treatment that smashes the gallstones with sound, kinda like what they are doing with kidney stones. If you can keep you organ all the better.

I had mine removed about 10 years ago due to polyps (they were unsure if they were cancerous or not and you cannot biopsy a gallbladder). The recovery for me was very painful because they jostled around my uterine fibroids while they were in there, and my boss insisted I come back to work before the recommended recovery time. I ended back in the ER about a week later, not much they could do other than give a shot of morphine and send me on my way. I also notice allot more heartburn than I had before it was removed and that may be because the bile goes straight to your stomach, instead of being dolled out as you need it. To top it all off, they did a terrible job with the incision at the belly button, and Now I have the biggest belly button you ever seen!!...no more bikinis!!! aackkk

I know you want to be pain free, ask the Dr. about the alternatives, surgery is so permanent. Blessings sweetie, Iris

I had surgery about 3 weeks ago and had the ol gb removed.
It was discovered that I had stones during the us. The dr said it looked like a salt mine in there. He thought it shouldn't cause any problems though. 3 days after I had my liver biopsy the ol gb just about killed me. Went to the ER and the next day they took that baby out. I'm feeling much better now, but still recovering from surgery.
The nice thing that was a benefit for having the surgery, is I lost 15 lbs.

Hi everyone, yes me too! biggrin When I had my ultrasound scan they told me my gallbladder was full of gallstones - luckily they haven`t caused me any problems, so far anyway.

Good luck with your op Mary, I`m sure you`ll be fine, and at least you won`t have to worry about having any more of those attacks, which I believe can be really painful.

As jan said, there does seem to be a link between Hep C and gallstones, and there have been some studies done which have shown  that.  Here`s a link to an article about it -

Hello Mary,  I am glad to hear you are feeling better after tx.  I too found out I have gallstones.  Seem to go hand in hand with hepc:(  I have had no symptoms from them and no one seemed to be over worried about them so I just leave them be.  I just hope they wont be a problem in the future.  Are yours very painful?  Is that why they are operating?

So I have not done treatment but, I did have gallbladder problems. The surgery was easy and recovery good and the pain was gone. I will pray yours will be easy too!

Well I have been off tx now for 5 months and I actually finally am feeling back to my old self.  Thank goodness however I had a couple of what I have been told is gallbladder attacks back in Oct.  furious  I was told after my liver ultrasound that I did have gallstones.  My bloodwork is really good but I was wondering if it was brought on by the fat I tried to consume while taking the riba.  Anyway I did not have any more attacks until a little over a week ago so now I will be having surgery to remove my gallbladder.  I am a little nervous but do not want to go through anymore of the attacks.  I have done some searches and it appears others have had the problem after tx but on the same thought there are many that have had this problem without having gone through tx.  In any case my 6 month post tx blood work is to be next month.  So things just continue on....   I could not imagine having these attacks while on tx.
