I started getting the itches after 4 days on treatment (!) so I got onto a Hydrocortisone cream, it works pretty well... :)

If you get a low dose (like 1%) you can use it on your face, neck and hairline, which is where I get the itches. I also found that anti-dandruff shampoo works great on my scalp and I also rub the foam into my face when I rinse my hair coz that seems to relieve itchy's too! I know it sounds a lil odd but it works for me so I run with it lolz

I lay off using soap in the shower and use a gentle body wash instead, also drink loads of water, use moisturiser and I go without make-up as often as possible.

Good luck, hope you ditch the itch!!

Hugs

K

im using elocon steroid cream sometimes when i need it and a shower gel called ' dermol 200' which isnt cheap but when my chest was bad with sores it did clear it up but comes back at times and e45 to moisturise.
my hair felt like wire so when i conditioned my hair i mixed a small amount of honey and milk together and added it to my conditioner, it does help abit and costs nothing.

About 2 weeks after the Incivek, the itch totally went away. The doctor prescribed lyderm for me - which is a steriod cream. Didn't totally kill the itch but got it bearable.

I ended up with a ****tail of remedies:

All baths were a little cooler than normal, and each one had a pack of Aveeno oatmeal bath stuff in it. No showers, because the water streams made me itch. I was able to get by with a bath every other day since I was moving very slowly and not sweating. And the backside was being treated specially for all the butt burn issues.

I used a good aloe skin lotion everywhere I had itching, mostly my back and sides, some on the arms, and the upper chest and neck was the worst.

I took benadryl tablets according to the instructions, mostly at night.

When it got real bad my nurse practitioner (she is actually an angel that was sent down here to help me out) prescribed a cortico steroid ointment I used in the bad spots.

By using all of these things in various combinations I was able to stay reasonably comfortable.

I ended up getting a prescription from my specialist for Atarax (hydroxzine 25), I call it Anthrax. Good Lord. I took the first one at 1pm Friday afternoon and besides being woken up take meds, I slept until 9:30 Saturday morning. I am now cutting them in half and trying to take them every few hours apart in hopes of building up a resistance. I dont think I could drive right now even if I wanted to and the pills give me cotton mouth so bad. Aveeno baths help and are soothing before bed and I have sworn off polyesters fabrics, cotton only. Nails and hair have both been cut for obvious reasons. I hope and pray that this rash doesnt last until the end of treatment, I have until Oct 2/12.

My itch would come and go, however the rash stayed bad for 2 months.I used claratin, hydroxzine 25mg-- left you very dopey, and a steroid spray clobex for 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off.The steroid left some marks on my chest and back , so use in moderation.Kept very well hydrated and use creams like aveeno and gold bond. When it got real bad I used ice, it numbed it out fast just before your about to go crazy. Good luck to all on tx.

I saw my GP regarding the itch. She gave me hydrocortizone cream 1%  mixed with menthol 25%. It helps but doesnt last very long, I have to keep getting up at night to reapply. Doc also suggested taking ranitadine 150 2x daily. I used to take that for heartburn. Anyway, I just took one and will let you know how it works. I just started week 20 of tx and have only had this rash for about 10 days. Can anyone tell me how long I can expect this to last? I have started sleeping on the couch so hubby and dog can get some sleep!

Nothing really worked well for me, but the one-a-day ceterizine (generic zyrtec) helped a little.  After month 2, I took 2 a day due to tolerance.

Also, showers made it worse (I think because it dried my skin).  I went from 2 showers a day, to just 1 in the morning before work.  Working helped keep my mind off my SX's.

Whenever I slowed down on my liquids (hydration) things always got worse. Just my belief, but I think the itching is caused by the deposition of toxins (TX drug metabololites) in the skin, much like bilirubin deposition causes bad itching in chirrotic patients.  The liquids help keep these flushed out. Plus these drugs are diuretic anyway, and our skin is moisturized from the inside out.

One last thing...Good luck on your UND!!!
