You make me feel bad. The whole time I was on Incivek I was never so innovative. Potato skins, peanut buttery stuff, cheese, anything with whole milk, sausage biscuits, nuts of all kinds, meat sandwiches, hot dogs, etc. were my staples. I could have enjoyed some creative olive oil utilization. I was on Incivek during the holidays so I also had egg nog and fruitcake, and all sorts of nutty treats, but nothing that was healthy. And I quickly got tired of all of them. Alan

for those on Incivek/Incivo

this is my favorite healthy 20g fat quick snack...

first I toast a piece of Gluten Free bread

then I pour on organic olive oil... topped with some Italian herbs

on top of that I add half an avocado

mm-mm-good!!! I eat this twice a day! If you eat cheese, you could add a thin slice of your favorite. I find animal fats and animal protein to hard on my liver, so only occasionally for me!

cheers all!!! :)

Yay Shep! *does the funky roast chicken dance* I think you are onto a winner with the roast idea, doesn't take much prep and you can 'pick' at the leftovers smile

Been keeping a big bag of mixed lettuce, baby spinach etc in the fridge so I can make a quick salad, then I just add some capsicum, chick peas, onion, parmesan cheese, celery, olives, or whatever is handy into the mix. Add some ham, chicken, chorizo or salami and a dressing and *Voila* instant lunch/dinner!

Thanks for the links Heather, that was definate food for thought lol you reminded me that I have a juicer and that using it more often would be a good idea! Been relying on smoothies a lot for an easy feed and to appease my fruit cravings, but I think I might start operation juicemaster now!

I do feel fortunate Alan especially when I read about the whole 20 grams of fat Incivek deal. A 'fat bomb' would be extra hassle and go straight to my belly or thighs I reckon bleh At this point am at no risk of hitting muscle or bone with the weekly shots!

My doctor told me that many people lose about 10% body weight during treatment? Is this true?

Wow, now I'm hungry off to the fridge...

x Kylie

I found smoothies to be really helpful as I could take my time drinking them. Plus, with the addition of yoghurt, I could get some of my 20g of fat as well.

A basic smoothie for me was:

blueberries

strawberries

teaspoon of lecithin, spirulina

2 tbsps of greek yoghurt

Vanilla protein powder

Enough milk to blend

I gained about 10lbs while I was on Incivek, partly due to my inactivity.

I suggest looking up recipes for stews and pasta sauces, since large batches of those can be made then frozen. Store a small batch in the fridge so dinner can be ready anytime.

As far as food is concerned you are both very fortunate. Shep is doing Victrelis so she doesn't need the Incivek fat dose, and K is doing only Pegasys and Riba, so there is no real dietary requirement. So, without much appetite the trick becomes ease and speed of prep. When I wasn't worried about a fat bomb for my Incivek, I would have a bowl of very nutricious cereal, a sandwich with meat and/or cheese, a handful of pecan sandies cookies and a glass of milk, some fruit, a bowl of cream-of-something soup, or a ready-made snack, like frozen potato skins with bacon and cheese (nuked, of course), or even a can of one of the "instant breakfast" type of drinks. I was basically trying to get some sort of nutrition in spite of the fact I did not want to eat at all. Having a loving wife around the house, who likes to fix meals and snacks, was a real plus. Sometimes she would just surprise me, and before I had a chance to say "I'm not hungry" I would be eating. While I might make a grilled cheese sandwich, she would fry bacon to put on it, making it even more delicious. While I might pop two pop-tarts into the toaster, she would drizzle honey on them before bringing them in. The moral of the story is lots of small, fast, easy meals and snacks, not necessarily at meal time, but whenever the spirit moves you, or when your partner can trick you into eating.

Alan

Yea--I love to cook to and was doing ok until the past couple of weeks--then it is like a can of soup, grilled cheese sandwich (when I feel really energtic) --but I did manage to cook an actual dinner last night. It was easy and tasty--roast chicken and roasted potatoes--can cook them both at the same time. Then you have chicken left over to make sandwiches, tacos, salads, soups or heat & eat again.

I need some ideas too-although interest in food is going. Inspiration come to me. I hear you on the Spam--ick

Hello All!

I am into my third week of treatment and have started to go off food a bit - which is TOTALLY out of character!

I loooooooooooooove cooking (and eating usually ) so it's a bit of a bummer when the whole appetite thing goes out the window. Also because my energy is a bit lower elaborate labour intensive meals are a bit of a stretch, especially when I don't feel like eating at tablet time.

What really helps is focusing on a particular meal that I want to eat because it hypes up my hunger, so it would be GREATLY appreciated if anyone has tips, recipes, ideas etc...

Meals that are easy, healthy, nutritious, simple, indulgent, delicious, quick, or of any other kind bring it on, I'm not fussy lol

So plz people, I need inspiration!!!!!!

Much love (from a total foodie who's off their food)

K

P.S Except for coz I don't like that... disbelief
