I finished Tx with Inc. a couple months ago and I also took allopurinol before and  through out Tx. The Inc raises uric acid, its a sx of the drug. The consequence of not taking allopurinol would be high risk of kidney stones and or gout.I had no issue with itching from the drug, but did have itching in general from the Tx drugs. You do have to take the allopurinol consistently without stopping and starting or it may make you flare up a gout attack.I think one way or the other its hard to avoid the itching at some level.Drink lots of water it also acts to rid your body of the uric acid and after the Inc you should be able to stop taking it. Hope your itching subsides some and Good luck with the  rest of your Tx.

Anyone else experiencing High Uric Acid Levels due to Tx?

The dr put me on Allopurinol but when I take it I start to itch, and I've been so so lucky with NOT itching on the Telaprevir that I hate to get it started because of this additional drug.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Mark
