Hi Brian, many people do find they have increased energy and a new lease of life once they`ve cleared the virus.  I have a friend in his mid 60`s who successfully completed tx about 3 years ago and he`s running around like a spring chicken!

Personally speaking, I had health issues before tx and I still have them a year post tx, although in general I would say I have more energy most days now and fewer aches and pains.

It is possible for the liver to repair a certain amount of the damage done, once the virus is gone, especially in the early stages of liver disease. Some people with advanced cirrhosis can be left with ongoing health problems, and Interferon-based treatment itself can sometimes leave people with health issues like fatigue, joint pain, and thyroid problems, for example.  Like a lot of things relating to Hep C, how people feel afterwards does vary

I know exactly what you mean about your past coming back to haunt you, and I`m sure a lot of us here have felt the same. confuse  But the main thing is you`re moving forward and doing tx now, and it sounds like it`s going well for you so far.

I`m hoping for the best possible outcome for you, good luck and keep us posted.  smile

Gidday Brian,

Will you feel better after tx ?  I see you think you were free of symptoms before starting tx, but the ol' virus does have it's way of sneaking up on people, and you'd be suprised how much of a dead weight HepC is, even when you think you're "symptom free".  That 'lack of energy' sounds pretty memorable, and it's a classic general symptom of the virus.  I think a little self denial is often not helpful and many people (including myself) wrote it of as being what happens as you start to get older.  Whether you think you feel it or not before tx, getting rid of the virus will make you healthier, and that's gotta' make you feel better.smile

As Jill points out, if you have other health issues - thay can make tx a bit harder and those other issues won't go away, but getting rid of the added effect that the virus componds to other conditions, often makes other problems a lot more easier to handle.

Sometimes the tx drugs themselves cause problems and they can often cloud how well we are doing.  I had big problems with interferon and was lucky to eventually finish tx.  My problems weren't common and once tx was over the added problems that the interferon caused took a while to clear, and before tx I was quite ill from the HepC itself.  Despite being very ill before tx, and battling like hell to get through tx, I managed to clear the virus and in time, am able to say living without HepC is noticeable.  I not only do I feel better these days, I can categorically say now that I'm over the crap that tx brought along with it, as well as the virus, and I now feel terrific.

Maybe it's great that you haven't been badly effected by the virus and will therefore just go on feeling good and with a bit of luck get some of that energy back, that you feel could have been lacking.  In short, getting rid of HepC will make you better.  It's given me back the life it took away from me prematurely.  In saying that, as I'm turning 55 this year I won't be running any marathons, but I can finish a hard day's work on the farm now and have energy to do things, when before tx, that just wasn't possible.

One thing that got me through life and more importantly tx was/is my sense of humour, a positive attitude and the fact that I don't give up.  HepC kicked me in the guts and I grabbed it by the throat and threw it out of my life.

You didn't ask for HepC and nobody deserves it.  Modern combination tx is getting so much better now and getting rid of the virus is more assured for people willing to go through the tx than ever before.  Your biopsy report is favourable where repair is reversible through tx and the genotype you have is highly and successfully treatable.  If you want to feel better, the balls in your court.

Best wishes with your tx mate.  Get a good night's sleep, plenty of rest and stick to a healthy diet while doing tx.  Your past doesn't matter now, take hope out of the equation and replace it with WILL.

Cheers,

Brendan.

I did not show any symptoms (although I never had much energy) when I was diagnosed as having hep c. Do folks that complete treatment feel like a new person? I'm in my 3rd week of tx and so far not many bad sx's. I'm geno 3, my biopsy report says grade 1 inflammation, stage 1 fibrosis. i know my past has come back to haunt me. hoping for the best.
