haha yeh. for one night only, kiwi is gonna be in the actual friday night dart club lol...  yeh, will ask tomorrow. but im gonna make my own mind up, and tell work its all cool anyway.... dont want a replacement driver or such, i can drive fine... its the abseiling or white water rafting i couldnt do this time round... dont even want to attempt it...  and thats not normal for me..

they want to arrange someone to releive me if i need more than the odd one day here and there...  im a one girl band up here, head office 2.5 hours south, so its just me... if im sick i gotta text all the kids, and tell work, and its a big mission... but they are totally supportive of me and thats real cool..

Wow Kiwi--what big hurdle you just jumped and landed great! It is hard to let people you work with know what is going on and not feel like they will think differently about you. I have said before that I told most of my co-workers up front--but I have known them for 10-15 years and we are really close. My boss took me aside today and told me to stay home tomorrow if I needed to--he said he was telling me this because I am so stubborn. Breathe and relax--enjoy your kids! It is great to get to take special trips with them. It sounds like from all the experts --the wonderful Isis --in particular---who do all the fantastic research --that you will be fine delay shot one day. Then you can really be a Friday darter!
Big Smiles!!!

I wanted to change the shot from Friday night to every Sunday night. I called their number, and was told that 2 days late or 1 day early was fine. So in successive weeks I went Friday-->Saturday-->Sunday. Cleared it with my Doc too.

I agree that the point is moot for kiwi b/c she is not going to be in blood contact anyway. UND does not always mean no virus, though.  Otherwise, people could never relapse after becoming UND.  In order to relapse there has to be enough virus left to replicate itself.

For people who reach SVR any virus that is left is not strong enough to replicate itself because the antiviral (riba) is still doing some work during its 6 month half life following tx.

Kiwi, I was very concerned about missing my regular shot date on one occasion b/c my doc told me not to take it until an eye doc could clear me (vision problems during tx).  Doc said okay to take the Friday evening shot on Monday evening and then take the next one on schedule.  Must have been okay because I'm still alive to talk about it.

Check with the doc. I bet you could delay a day, but then get right back on your usuaul schedule the next week. At least that's what the little paper bundle that unfolds into a bedsheet that packs with the Pegasys says.

thanks.. yeh. lots of questions got asked...

main one for me now, is can i take it a day late. (my shot) coz that would solve the whole problem of her not wanting to drive back from our camp. i work with youth, we are going to an outdoor adventure centre (woo hoo) so i said i might not be able to do all the activities, but im still keen as...

they dont want me to drive home on a friday after my shot, with the kids. it was planned to come home on the thursday night. hmmm.

so if i can have it a night late, it would calm the boss down... she doesnt want risks for the youth either.

I agree with jrc, any intelligent boss (yes, there are a few) will know you are not a risk if your viral load is zero, UND.

I told my manager and my co-workers before I even started treatment, because ours is a round the clock operation (I work as a UNIX systems admin for a major university and hospital in Maryland), and each of us tries to maintain a constant availability to help out if something happens. I foresaw some bad days, and believe me, they came. But the boys at work were OK with that, and knew exactly what was going on. They have been supportive, and are genuinely interested in the treatment process. They ask the smartest questions. I enjoy talking with them about it.

Good for you Kiwi!

Telling work is soo hard!  I have told my employer, but not that it's Hep C.  He's elderly and conservative and  I just don't feel comfortable with it.  They do need to know you are struggling though, and people like us generally have a hard time asking for help, but we need it!

I don't think you can infect anyone while you are undetected, but there's so little chance of that even with full blown Hep C and co-workers--- it's almost a moot point, unless you are in the health care field and are giving injections or something...

God, it does sometimes feel like we are lepers!

Hope you are feeling strong for today.

Kate

Grats on letting the cat out. Still got mine tied off, but its been scratching at the bag alot and getting kinda thin. One less thing to worry about. Cool!

Overnight or weekend trips are definitely different. Had 2 of them including shot night. The trip itself went fine. Its the pre-planning and packing. Not just the meds, but the food, snacks, water, etc. Can't rely on it just being available when I need it unless I brought it. No one else is thrilled to go out and get something to eat at 6 am or 10 pm, and 2 pm is just stupid. Portable coolers are great. No shortage of ice packs.

ok. well ive told my work i have hep c. i work with youth, and id had a couple of more days off than i ever do, and couple of things happened, and long story short i felt i owe them that much. ive worked there 6 years and theyve looked after me. sooo. i told them i wanna talk, but in person. and i intended fully not to mention the hep c word. but after sayin im on treatment, chemo type stuff, and filled them in being as vague as possible. my lovely boss basically said, has it got a name, (which i sure would have.) i said virus... they said oh good not cancer. then asked again. ahhhhhh, well my cards are all out on the table. we have a trip coming up, maybe overnight on a thursday (shot night for me) anyway, boss is concerned me driving all the way and back. with my guys. ahhhh, and well, but i dont need a driver as long as i time it right. gotta see if i can take the shot one night late..... work dont want to jeapordize my treatment , they totally want to support me and help in any way...

i dont want another driver, part of the fun of coming home from a trip away with my guys is bonding and havin fun.. so i might even tell her its all cool to have it a night late..... but really still do it on thursday. ah i dunno.

then i would have to have it out of fridge, (oh i got freezer packs. hmm) talk about in subterfuge mode now....

glad ive said something, they noticed ive lost weight but they didnt think i was any different. and they told me to stop being so staunch its ok to get support.

. its been a full on day. 5 hours of driving and a long lunch over a serious conversation..

ok. deep breath in, its done now. im pretty straight up and they are glad ive been honest, boss had a bit of a smile at how ive been tryin to be, business as usual... and said i was too stoic for my own good. and she would tell me off if she thought i was putting myself at risk either, by not communicating if i need help...

they also know i actually did not have to say a word.... so i hope that goes in my favour... the boss said she still has to tell her boss, but she foresees no problem. we did discuss worst case scenario.... like could i infect someone..

CAN YOU INFECT SOMEONE WHILE YOU ARE UNDETECTED.? i told her i would ask that.

ah its been a bloody big day, i need to keep positive that ive done the right thing... bleh.gif

thanks for lettin me rave...
