Jill, Tom, thanks for responses. I have a few posts from similar forum in Russian also.

Seems ferritin serum marker is very sensitive for Tx meds and other patients also noted abnormal growth during treatment. There are explanations for the phenomenon, but not enough professional. It is the most importent, as Tom reported, ferritin drops to normal level after succesful Tx (or even during Tx).

Hi Uval!  Sorry I didn't see this post either!  Hep C caused my hemochromatosis to flair up.  Although it is a genetic iron disorder- there is some link to Hep C.  My ferritin levels went to 1555 before tx!  Although the high levels of iron can cause major problems - most of them are reversable.  They took out a half liter of blood a week until I was in the normal range and it did make me feel better.

I was the opposite of you in that tx made my ferritin levels fall in to the 22 range and they have never come back.  They are still low even a year after tx.  My GI doc doesn't really know why - but says that tx can effect the iron levels in some people.  You may need to take out some blood - but only your specialist doctor will know for sure.  It's very easy and I felt lots better after each one.

Treatment for HCV affects us each a bit dirrerently so the doctors who are very familiar with iron disorders are the ones to consult.  Good luck and take care - tysmile

Hi Uval,  I noticed you haven`t had any replies so far, so I`m bringing your post up again.

I can`t say I`ve had any experience of high ferritin levels on tx, but I`m pretty sure that a couple of our members have mentioned it before.

What did your doctor have to say about it, does he think it`s cause for concern?

Best of luck ~ Jill xx

Ferritin serum level was always in range 180-230, but after first week Tx jumped up to 800-950. Is it normal for Tx? Who is familiar with the issue? Thanks
