Shep,

I hate to hear you ended up with real strep throat. About week 10 (near the end of my Incivek) I got a bad sore throat, but no fever. Of course I felt a little feverish all the time. But there was no measured fever. So I figured it couldn't be strep. I got me a big jug of that awful tasting original Listerine and gargled twice a day. In three or four days it was gone. I was lucky.

I hope by now your antibiotics are working better. You need to kick this stuff and move on. It is just amazing to me the amount of abuse our bodies can take. I look back on weeks 9-11 and I can't believe I lived through it.

You'll be torturing teenagers again before you know it.

Alan

Hi Malcolm
You have a great spirit--I predict you are going to do great! I am wondering --do you have to do the Vic for the whole rest of the time or do you get to stop after the 24 weeks of Vic? I have made peace with the Vic--it bites me with some bad taste every so often and of course the low energy. But I just say take this and sit down on the couch and watch one more episode of Law & Order--I think I have seen every single episode ever made--and all this week!!
Can't wait to shake this strep--can't wait to get back to torturing teenagers!

Hi Shep,

Thanks for the post. Good to see others are getting undet. on Vict.

Now 2 weeks of Vict. and getting used to the Sx. I guess when I had Riba and Inter. in 2000, I didn't really have too much trouble, so it was a shock to see what 4 days on Vict. could do. Saw my doc today, who says" you have to expect more Sx at your age and with the cirrhosis". My Hb etc. is holding up, but it would be great to get a 4 week undet. As I'm in this for 48 weeks, time to stop whingeing and get out and about.

Malcolm - I am in Week 21, and my sx really haven't been too bad or changed much from the beginning, except for the fatigue and anemia. Naps, laziness, and couch time really increased, probably back in Week 8 or earlier. That's my simple management strategy, listening to my body and doing what it tells me to do. Gotta do what you gotta (or can) do. HGB hit below 10's (100's ?) in Week 10, below 10 in Week 14, and riba was reduced in Week 17. Seems like the HGB may have leveled off, but it takes a while to get the results. Hang in there.

Shep - So sorry about the strep. I chose to back out of a trip to see the grandkids last week because one of them had strep. Don't think anyone really understood, and may have hurt some feelings, but with my blood counts so low, red and white, I wasn't willing to take the chance. Like you said, it can get worse.

Hey Malcolm--I am in week 18 out of 28 with the Vic tx. It started out roughly smooth sailing (??) --normal managable sx--loss of energy, bad taste, little loss of appetite, mild headaches and body aches, cranky, moody, brain fog and then out of the blue happy and energetic. Don't worry that didn't last a real long time. The doc said that between weeks 9ish through 12ish was the time to watch for drop in RBC and general anemia. Well he was right. I also have had the extra added attraction of insane out-of-control hypothyroid. They put me on Procrit for RBC help--it is maintaining my count at a nice low level. It is not improving but it is not dropping anymore. So I have been coasting for awhile. Until this week--got strep. Didn't think it could get worse. HA!

With the cirrhosis--they will probably watch your RBC, WBC pretty close. Just have to settle in and take it easy! Best of luck. Please let us know how you are doing!!

Hi all, 69yo.m.,cirrhotic, geno 1b, VL at start 1.28M., after 4 weeks leadin with SOC, VL 3,030. Started Victrelis 10 days ago, Hb had dropped from 148 to 104. on SOC.

Have been feeling dreadful since day 4 of Vict. Extreme lethargy, nausea.

Finally called clinic today, and had FBC. Hb 107, so not severely anaemic.

Told the Sx of Vict. are worst at about week 4 then improve. Anyone on Vict. who can tell me how Sx progress? Don't want to modify dose until I get my VL after 4 weeks on Vict. An undetected would sure help, but I understand that at my age and being cirrhotic, it may take longer. It's a great help reading the forum, and knowing there are others out there.
