Squeek, squeek! hmm

I think I'm ready for hydroxizine...

I use Biotene dry mouth gel to coat my mouth before I go to bed.

My nose is so dry/irritated that it constricts my nasal passages and makes it hard to breathe.  I use those nasal strips designed for snorers to help open up the passages.  Then I use nasal gel or vaseline to coat my nasal passages so they hopefully don't crack and bleed.  Most nights this enables me to breathe through my nose.  For the nights I can't, the Biotene keeps my mouth all lubed up

Hi Kate, I also take Benadryl before I go to sleep. It relaxes me, stops the itch and helps me sleep better. I usually don't take any meds unless something really hurts but itchiness is something I can't stand.

Is that why my guy told me to up the intake?  I thought I had the water thing down, but I definately need to be more conscious of it.

Margo,

As i suspected, the professionals were clueless when it came to my scalp itch.  He totally fluffs things off like it's a frivilous complaint because I've come through the nightmare part.  It bums me out because I do believe it's important to document these sx so others can benefit from the treatments we guinea pigs come up with.

Tea Tree Tingle shampoo and conditioner from trader joes are my best escape yet, and Mythic oil from my hair salon at bedtime brings comfort.  I still do the bedtime antihystimine but one of these nights I'm gonna get the courage to go without.  It's supposedly non-addictive, but my little addict brain gets uncomfotable around that. (Thinking I'll only be able to sleep if I take it).

Hope you are finding some relief for yourself.

Kate

Huy make sure you drink plenty of water.  When you stop the Incivek your mouth is not as dry so it's easier to stop drinking as much water as you should.  My two itchiest days were in the week I stopped Incivek until I realized I was no longer as thirsty and had accidently cut back on my water.

Dave

Let me know what he says but you are right, it's easy for doctors to say oh yeah try this or try that but they will never know the true feeling if it.

Thanks Brad for the info! I took Benadryl today, definitely calm the itch but it left me drowsy. I'll look into the meds you suggested, thanks again, it feels good when you have people who support and understand exactly how you feel. Best to you too!

Hi Margo, you must be on the Incivek triple TX. I remember that "just under the skin", weird,  prickly feeling.  For me, that was definitely the incivek.  The surface little bump itch was from the Riba.  That one drove me nuts.

I found ceterizine (generic Zyrtec) helped the skin stuff the most. I took a one-a-day pill every day.  I upped it to 2 times a day later in TX when I developed a tolerance.

You might want a prescrition  for Hydroxyzine (generic for Atarax)  It is actually broken down in the body into ceterizine, among other things.  But it has additional side effects, including drowsiness, and is even used for mild anxiety.

From "Drugs.com":

"Hydroxyzine is used primarily as an antihistamine for the treatment of itching, allergies, hyperalgesia, motion sickness-induced nausea, and insomnia, as well as notably for the treatment of mild anxiety.[3] Even though it is an effective sedative, hypnotic, analgesic, and tranquilizer, it shares almost none of the abuse, dependence, addiction, and toxicity potential of other drugs used for the same range of therapeutic reasons."

Sounds kinda perfect for TX, huh? (At night, for sleep & itch control)

I haven't used it, but many here have,  and they said it helped a lot.

Good luck, hang in there,

Brad
