I had a similar reaction to my interferon shots in my arms and legs (thighs) when I was on tx for the first few months; turns out I am basicly Allergic to Interferon (it works on the hep but my body puts up one hell of a complaint); swelling, rash, bruising, blistering, scalely, burn itch; it looked like cellulitis; but cellulitis travels 'Up' the body not down with Gravity which clued them in that it was the interferon; also affected my muscle strength in those areas;as the med moved down in my tissues with gravity it aggrivated the skin, muscles, and tissue as it traveled down.
after some antibiotics it took few weeks for the 'rash' to diminish and go away; My Np & liver spec told me to inject only in my belly from now on and not in my thighs and arms; I still get red; puffy and bruised for weeks on end in each injection site but it's not nearly as bad as it was on my arms and legs; I have a post somewhere on the forum with pics of my arms during that process if your friend cares to check it out and see if it looks similar;
Not sure if his reaction is the same as mine but might be something to check out;
Note; although I have this reaction to interferon I was given to the option to try just the belly and see how that went, rather than stop all together; I opted for that and though it still sucks I basicly just grit my teeth; deal with red itchies and take it one day at time.
Hope your friend finds some answers Wilson! and feels better soon!

i have petal marks all round my belly button. only ever bruised badly once, it bled right away, so mustve gone thru a wee blood vessel... otherwise i have varying shades of round petals as they fade.

when im in a hot bath they look redder too.

The official Pegasys website shows the following recommended injection sites and recommends rotating:

Yes that should be standard.  The pharmacists instructed me to to take it out of the fridge for 45-60 minutes before injecting.

I find it helps to not inject right from the fridge. Have your friend warm the vile by holding it in his hand for a few minutes. I was injecting cold for 20 something weeks and it wasn't good. Since I started bringing the med up to room temp it was much better. Steve

Try doing alcohol or warm compresses to the area, should help.

I set up this for my husband. I was on the meds 2yrs ago. and finished it with flying colours. but now my husband is on it, but he has to take the incevak. when i was tasking the shots i would rotate the shots, 12 o'clock, 3, 6, 9, after injection rub it well. and if swelling and burning put a compress.

I thought that you could only use 1 site? not thigh's and stomach. I did all of mine in the stomach and used the clock. 12, 3,6,9, and so fourth. I did not know u could rotate between stomach and thigh,s

I alternate between FOUR places:  About 3" left and right of my navel.  And on my right and left thigh.  I definitely get some redness, especially on my stomach.  But no pain or swelling.

Hi all,

A dear friend who is going through triple therapy, at week 26 of 46 weeks (approx.)  has two sites on his belly that are swollen and sore.  He has very little body fat and has been alternating left and right of the belly button.  Dr. says it's not from hitting a vein, not absesses. He's on a antibiotic (5-6 days), but has a swollen groin gland.  He's freaking out because the Doc said it "should" go away, but he doesn't know! Anybody have any experience with this kind of thing or ever heard of anyone having long term bloating from injection sites???
