Welcome Aboard. My take on what we are doing and where we are going is like we all are on a big ship, sailing toward a virus free tropical island. Youre welcome to sign on!

My first shot (this is my third attempt) has usually been mild. I just did shot 3 on Thursday night. I do it on Thursdays since I can work at home on Fridays and then have the weekend to be on auto-pilot. My suggestion is to find the humor (even if it is dark humor) in the experience.

Last time, I went out and bought an eye-patch, pirates hat and sword. Then started looking for candidates I wanted throw overboard.

Welcome! Glad your shot went well. I would read everything I could find on sx and be ready in case any pop up as you go forward. I agree with Ty about the AD's. I was plugging along just fine I thought, but when I stopped I realized how stressed I was. My Dr. Offered them to me but I said no. Macho pacho b.s. on my part. Hopefully, if your Dr thinks they would help, you would consider it. Everyone reacts different though. This is not easy but it is doable. And you can do it. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!  I too didn't feel much after my first shot, I thought I ruined the drugs after I had to drive home in the 100 degree heat with no air conditioning!  But no, they were fine and for me the effects just built up over the weeks, LOL. Like you I had Genotype 2 and they never gave me a letter to go after it either.

The sides for me built up over time, but my stuborness wouldn't let me quit.  I was chilled the entire time and I just could not sleep without pills that my regular doctor prescribed.  Those sides went away after treatment and I sleep fine now.  I don't know about hitting a vein, although many people on the forum do have a tough first shot, with the others getting easier after that.  Fatigue was an issue throughout tx and be aware of any drastic mood swings.  If I did anything different in tx I would go on an AD early, but that's just me.  Welcome again and feel free to ask any questions that you might have.  Take care, tysmile

Hi everyone.  I just started treatment this week.  I was hoping I would feel OK and so far so good.  I was wondering if this is the norm or will I feel worse over time?  I tried doing this a couple of months ago, but upon receiving the first injection, i had a severe inject site reaction, was sooooo sick that night with a pounding headache, nausea and the worst flu symptoms ever....I was in the middle of my semester and decided that since i was so sick for 3 days that i couldnt do it until school was over.  I also was pretty certain that the injection was somehow administered right in a vein.  I bled from the site and i had a pooling of blood under skin, which would explain why i was so sick.  anyway i braced myself for this second  injection,(after semester) considered i would be sick again and low and behold...I feel fine.  Which gives credence to the theory she hit the vein.  I was pretty tired the first day but feel great....I am so happy!  I have type 2, and am on the 6 onth plan.

Hi flutterby and welcome from me too!  aww  Good to hear your first week is going well.

As ty said, many people find their first shot the most difficult one and the symptoms you describe do sound fairly typical of what a lot of people experience.   After that the shots  tend to be much easier, although other sx (side effects) can appear as you go along.

Have a good look around the forum, we`re a friendly group and someone will always try to help if you have any questions.

Best of luck!  ~ Jill xx

ps - Here`s an interesing overview of possible sx and tips on managing them -
