Lindsay, I've been taking Neupogen since April.  Twice a week, now down to once per week.

A few times it has stung me going in, but not all the time.  I do aspirate with Neupogen (pull back plunger to ensure not in a blood vessel) and go in, bevel-up.  The trick is you have to inject it very slowly.  The syringe is full at 100 units so kinda tricky to aspirate that but very do-able.  I inject into my thighs for Neupo.......belly is for PegIntron.

It is common for the Neupo to burn a little afterwards, as well, even up to an hour.  You can use some ice to help with that.

I'm about to do my Neupogen shot now (every Sat night).  It gives headaches and bone pain as new Neutrophils are formed in bone marrow, so Excedrin and Lots of water help me, so does Ativan.  I usually start to feel human by Tues after Fri PegIntron and Sat Neupogen, if that helps at all.  Lindsay, you're an awesome person to love and help Renee through this like you do.  Hugs to you guys!

Thanks Alan and Jill! Alan, will do :) It's bittersweet. I'm glad to know neuopogen is "supposed" to sting so it's not something I'm doing. I'm not happy it hurts so much :(

Hi, Lindsay. I only know that neupogen is a "stinger". It is known to be painful at the time of injection. But I have no experience for the days after the shot. It hurts me that Renee is hurting. Give her a hug from me. She is a trooper, but we all need love from all directions. Alan

I know I'm a supporter but thought my question is most likely seen here.  Renee is having to take Neupogen weekly now.  I helped her two nights ago...the first time I've helped with the Neupogen shot.  It hurt seeing her in so much pain, and she still felt pretty bad yesterday.  I'm just wondering if aside from Advil, if there are any tips that can make the injection hurt less and also help her for the first few days after.  Thanks!
