Well, I started treatment last Thursday (finally). The interferon was pretty rough but the riba was easier than I thought. I hope the interferon settles down and the riba stays like it is.

check out my website.... www.twentygramsoffat.com

One of our members, Marktrux has pointed out to me that this site is a scam.

If you register as a viewer you are re-routed and attempt to leave a comment or feedback you are re-routed to a site that has lots of things to sale (none of them related to hep c, its treatment or twenty grams of fat. Also once registared you are bombbarded with junk e mail, all related to Wordpress. It is nothing more than an e-mail address gathering site, operating under the promise of helping people with hep c."

Thanks Mark!

Thanks JoAnne,

I am trying to learn about the side effects to prepare myself.  But I will only be using the two drug treatment and not the three since I have genotype 3, so it is hard for me to sort out which side effects I will be experiences.  I am assuming the rash and hemmoroids is from the Incivek, so hopefully I won't have that part.  But all the other stuff I am guessing I will have to deal with.  But I could be wrong on this.  There aren't a lot of posts about side effects from people only doing the 2 drug treatment, what I have talked to a couple of people who have shared their experience, so I am bracing my self for nausea and fatigue as the two biggest side effects.

Thanks Joanne. I am looking forward to being rid of this beast and hopefully in a year I will also be coaching others on how to deal with the sx as that seems to be the biggest stepping stone.

DJ and Kirkroad, Welcome, like you I was fortunate to find this forum before starting meds. One helpful thing I did was study the site and made notes on how others treated symptoms. I bought Hemmoroid cream, suppositories, baby wipes, stocked up on different lotions, oatmeal bath product, toothpaste for sensitive dry mouth a must for me.
When I took my 1st shot I took dose of benadrylband 2 Tylenol
And I take half of a 25 mg seriquel to sleep.
This is my 2nd attempt at cure and I ended up in ER last time from exhaustion side effects doc gave me seriquel to sleep. So I knew I had to have that.
Rash bothered me a lot seems better now I am off Invicek plus I don't feel dehydrated anymore.
I have had bumps but all and all doing well.
A peaceful environment and flexibility helps plus I am 53 years old and Invicek had me in the bed a lot.
We are here to help w any questions.
Hope u join in soon, I am at week 14 and all is good today:)
JoAnne

Hope it goes well!  I am still waiting to start (hopefully next month).  I think it is good to just get going and to be able to count down those weeks to the finish line.

One week to go before my journey begins. I will be able to get one game of slo-pitch in before the meds start and hope to be able to get out and at least cheerlead my team for the rest of the season. would like to play, but not holding my breath.

Kirkroad, Mine were fairly mild or negligible other than those related to anemia, which were definitely not negligible. My dr chose to reduce riba for that at week 17, which was a great improvement. I was able to work for the duration except for an early afternoon and day hear and there. But I "rested" basically the entire weekend and not much else except work during the week to do that.   There were some periods where I was not very productive cause of the brain fog, but managed to go the distance without telling anybody at work. The shots bring on headaches and flu-like symptoms for just about everybody, I think, which is why I did the shot on Friday. Water, water, and more water helps everything, except maybe sleep. When the itching started, changing soaps and using a good moisterizer religiously got that under control. Listen to your body. There are a lot of resources and some great experience on this forum.

Hi and welcome Kirkroad. Side effects vary immensely from person to person. I am doing 48 weeks on Victrelis, and extreme lethargy is my main problem. This is also anemia related, due to both Ribavirin and Victrelis . I have some dry shin, some hair loss, weird food habits and the dry, metallic mouth. There are many posts dealing with how to treat side effects. Good lucksmile

Thanks Alan. In other words, a piece of cake. My biggest concern has really been medical leave or no medical leave. I can see pros and cons to both sides. I guess I will play it by ear. Bill

I did Incivek, but I have heard folks talk about the Victrelis triple. Mostly they complain about a nasty metallic taste in their mouths, and that food begins to taste different. The dosing schedule is about as bad as Incivek, with multiple daily doses on a very precise schedule. Usually, it is recommended to take the Victrelis with some food, I guess to pad the stomach. The total side effects picture for the whole combo is dry skin, itching, fatigue caused by anemia, thinning of the hair, trouble sleeping, trouble staying awake, restless legs, the ribavirin rash, low white cells, low platelets, and as you get later in treatment the anemia and low white cells may need to be treated along with everything else. It is my opinion that the Victrelis triple has fewer and less intense side effects than Incivek. But that is not based on anything other than accounts I read here. Best to you, and congrats on deciding to treat. There are a whole bunch of successful Victrelis users here, slaying dragons like there's no tomorrow. You will be in good company. Alan

Which triple are you doing? Side effects depend a lot on what protease inhibitor you use (Incivek or Victrelis).

What can I expect for side effects? Has anyone managed to go with no ill effects?
