Hi Scruffy, beta tester, this sounds great! Yes we both played LotRO around 2007/2008 I think - before it went 'free to play', actually we must have stopped just before the Mines of Moria expansion, I remember people waiting for it - or maybe shortly after. I did find it harder to play than WoW and less intuitive, so with all the other demands on our time we did not progress much (I think we had 2-3 chars each of different classes, around level 40). But I do remember it fondly, just riding around in those beautifully designed lands, all the familiar landmarks and characters. (Hope we don't get done for going off topic so blatantly!)

Nice Ash

Have you played Lord of the Rings online? (LOTRO) I was a beta tester for that. I was also an early beta tester for Star Wars Knights of the old Republic.

What got me started was Star Wars Galaxies. IMO SWG and the expansion JTL were the best. I had a lot of time while taking care of my Mom to play not so much any more.

I do play Star Citizen but only log on now and again its still in alpha.

Ashenvale - mine is so boring. Just my last name, but it comes from a long line of leather tanners in Switzerland, of which there is a family crest. If I hadn't been in such a hurry to ask questions, I would have done something more creative, like Eowen. Her bad ass courage to fight for victory inspires me. The avatar is the sunrise view from our cottage (peaceful, beginning of a new day).

Tanner - thank you and yes I see what you mean -  I guess I mentioned Lothlorien because  I always imagined Rivendell as more 'grand' with a more golden palette, and Lothlorien as more shadowy, quiet, blue-green.  Indeed, it's in the eye of the beholder!

(I must add, I have been admiring your avatar too, so beautiful and serene!)

Ashenvale - I think your avatar (I love it) resembles Rivendell, more than Lothlorien. "In the eye of the beholder" I guess.

Very cool car! My first good car was a used 1968 AMC Javelin SST with the 343 Go Pac. AMX cost more so I was happy with the SST. Good times!

Observer, this is a great nick, and generally a philosophical position in life. I can relate to the backstory behind it too :)

OK - don't laugh though or throw rotten tomatoes at me :)

Ashenvale is a location from World of Warcraft. It could have just as easily been Lothlorien -but I wanted a nick that is purely symbolic but not too obvious (so no Tolkien), and connected to both nature and fantasy rather than any real-life historical context.

I play computer games when I am low and can't do anything else, especially during chemo times when I am prone to infection so can't even have visits from grandchildren. My kind of game is usually of the 'elves-orcs-might-and-magic' kind. Ashenvale is a contested zone, which is claimed by both elves and orcs. It is full of elven artefacts and what used to be soothing atmosphere. In its current state the zone is in disarray, invaded, burned and so on - but there are still some areas left where an old player would recognise its former beauty and serenity.

It is also special for me and my husband as we used to play fantasy-based games years ago, when we both had the time for such things - but then other, more 'grown-up' things in life took over. And now we play again, simply because there isn't that much that I can do easily now apart from walks. (Having said that, those virtual landscapes do remind me that there is real nature out there, and often moves us to get up and leave the city for a couple of days. We are in the countryside right now as it happens, walking around real-life lakes and forest paths)

LoL! Me too Observer!  nice car Robert!!!

A light bulb went off when I was reading Tigs bio, and then I rememberd this thread. (Bing! Duh, he's a tig welder) lovely helmet by the way, doubles as a rocket helmet I see! My brother welded at Menasco for awhile back in the 80's, or maybe it was the early 90's.

I like Lurker , but Observer is much more refined

Never knew those trees were for hoodies, which by the way are the perfect garment, I see ms. Hoodie in many different styles and colors!

5! How many of us are named after a number? unique at the very least :)

Ahhh, ok Sailing shoes!!!, Now I get it, very cool, great band. Love that version of Dixie Chicken with Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt.

So, who's next?

I had been on many HCV forums in the days of interferon...I participated a lot but I found I got a lot of judgement because I wasnt interested in doing interferon, just wanted to learn about the disease and be supportive, find people that could relate etc...

I decided I didnt want to define myself first and foremost by my disease and so quit all the forums.

But when they invented the new DAAs, I joined here but didnt think Id participate much...just observe and I thought Observer was a better name than Lurker biggrin

Prepare to be underwhelmed:

My moniker comes from the place where you hang up your hoodies, kind of like a coat tree but for less formal garments.

Resurrection of vintage thread...

Anyone?

I didn't disclose before, but I'll tell you now.

Iris is from the Goddess of the rainbow and represents all color which I love to explore through art and how color affects our moods. Dragonfly has long been a totem of mine, the little critter shows up in the strangest places for me,  (once in a department store dressing room to notify me of my Grandmothers passing.) It was only by coincidence the association to the "dragon" within.

My mundane name is Nancy

Right after the Gold Member Austin Powers movie I was visiting my submariner Son at Pearl Harbor and all his friends/boatmates were have trouble calling me by my first name, military bearing and all.   We were all out one evening when his best friend got concerned about my where abouts and ask all the gang "hey, where is the Fajah"....and I thought they were all good with that and the name stuck.

11 years later it is now my Grandfather name and my wife is Majah...so it works out great.  I have the Austin Powers car phone ringtone on my phone also.

If you see a red BMW R1200RT motorcycle ever wizzing around Florida or panhandle area, I also have my motorcycle tag says "FAJAH".
